My friends and I found a spider on the outside brick wall and it was really big! It was about the width of the brick and it was black and white striped on it's large abdomen. On the underside it had the same pattern but yellow and black. I live in mid-western MN and one of the people I was with said she had never seen a spider like that in her life. (she's 40!) I looked all over the iternet and can not find anything the resembles this spider! Please tell me if you know anything!

Hey Shawna - sorry, apparently I have "exceeded my email quota for the day" according to Yahoo! so I couldn't respond back to your email. I don't want *really* want to post my private email on Yahoo! for all to see. Can you go to http://www.imageshack.us and upload the picture there? That way you can just edit the details of your question (or email me the link that will be at the bottom of the page on imageshack after uploading under: Direct URL to picture) and I can edit my response to help you ID the spider. :)

Further browsing indicates their is a 'Wasp Spider' that is discovered in Contienial Europe and routinely the South Coast of England... Which continues to be a thriller as I reside within the Midlands(England - UK) that is miles from the any coast permit handiest the South Coast.... Should I be charging individuals to come back and seek advice from my Garden to peer this infrequent website online or is there a further sort of spider out right here? They aren't damaging to persons are they I believe??? - my mum could be very anxiouis!!! Damon

I would need to see a picture of this spider. I have been bit by a black widow in 1971 in southern florida (they are not lethal unless you are very young or in bad health)

I have also been bitten in maine by a wolf spider (hurt really bad but I survived) In Michigan this spider is called a wood' spider!

From what you tell me it might be in the family of tarantula's.
Do you still Have this spider???????

Sounds interesting; a photo would help. If you can't get a photo, the most detailed description you can manage would be useful; include anything you think might be interesting, and anything you particularly noticed. Often your impressions about an animal can be the most useful in identifying it.

Sounds like what we call a garden spider. They are large and their bodies are "bulbous." They have yellow on them that sometimes resembles a lightning bolt. They are harmless and eat lots of bugs. :)
