By burning and then dig the roots out.

cut it down as far as possible then dig out the roots. Putting weed killer etc on it doesn't seem to kill the roots. Backbreaking job but great sense of achievement when it's gone. Good luck.

Dig the dam thing out as far away from the root ball as you can remove every root you can see and hope you have it all they are terrible to get rid of completly

Dig it out. Chop the top off first or you'll keep cutting yourself on it. Then attack the roots with a pickaxe. They go down about 2 feet.

dig it out if possible if you cant dig it out dig a trench around it and cut off the roots you will have to make sure that you dig up as many roots as possible you could always cover the ground for a while with polythene or carpet to kill the roots off or use weedkiller

I couldn't take getting ripped to pieces anymore
whenever I had to work near it. So, like most of the others who answered , I set it on fire and dug the roots out of the ground and sent it to the council dump.

If you don't want to use chemicals, then the only way is to dig - and keep on digging!
Burning it will not help, it will actually grow back bigger and stronger!

Chop it right down & then hard work dig it up.
Dont burn it, when I chopped mine down found allsorts of bugs had homes in the dam thing.
There were loads & loads of ladybirds.
Wear armour the leaves are wicked. & will cut you to shreds.
