I got an email about Ted Kennedy being responsible for the death of Mary Jo Kopechne in 1969. He drove Drunk and flipped the car upside down in water. (I checked snopes and can only find something about him and Donald Rumsfeld)

It says he got him self out and left her there. She drowned. He wasn't punished in ANYWAY and now is a Senator??

Okay, I know the Kennedy family has some clout .. being JFK was President and all , but did he really get away with Murder?
I do remember a few years back of the news saying he has a history with alchol ... but did he really leave her there to die?

If so, How did he continue a career in politics?!!
Wouldn't people be angered by such outragous behavior??

I am looking for answers here people .. this doesn't sound right.

Completely true. He did plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge of leaving the scene of an accident.

I myself wasn't old enough back then to really remember, so I went online. Yes, there was an accident and regardless of his defense, he was drinking and driving.

He didn't report it until the next day, so anyone knows your blood alcohol level wouldn't be the same. His friends thought he would report it right away and get some help, but he didnt speak up until 10 HOURS LATER!!!! she died!

Has nothing to do with Laura Bush .. She didnt have 10 hours to have the opportunity to find help.

Ted Kennedy has had a history of problems with Alcohol and it is almost blown over like, "well, you know that is Teddy".
It shouldn't be acceptable now or even back then just because of his family name. He isn't highly respected by everyone in his state, but has won the election. I dont think he has a chance with President .. he has much to much baggage.

Great question .. nice to see some history brought up to make us have to go back and reflect on why we are making the same mistakes over and over .. I thought we were smart enough these days to learn by them. (lol)

Every single part of what you are saying is
HERESAY
Sen. Kennedy was NEVER charged with driving under the influence
Sen Kennedy stated to Police that he made several attempts to find the young lady.

If it were proven that Sen. Kennedy was over the Limit on alcohol (which it WAS NOT) the charge would NOT have been murder. The charge would have been vehicular manslaughter.

Unlike George W Bush, Sen. Kennedy has never been cited for drinking impaired
Like Laura Bush, Sen Kennedy was involved in an accident and one of his staff Mary Joe Kopechney was killed.
Unlike Laura Bush, Sen. kennedy had NO KNOWN previous affair with the victim

It was an accident, in both cases.

it is true. He was thinking about running for president and that ruined his chances of ever being elected

he did not get away with murder, they analyzed the situation and he claimed he tried several times to rescue her...
regardless of Kennedy's personal life, the people of Massachusetts have decided to elect him several times as a senator. They believe he supports them on the issues and they are perfectly aware of this incident.

It's all true. And it's disturbing.
