We have a 12 foot moving truck and a 97 Crown Victoria - going about 780 miles.

The truck has a 35 gallon gas tank - and gets between 8-15 mpg

i'd say probably close to $300, with a $100 margin of error in either direction.

your variables will be:

1) price of gas (varies widely by area)
2) gas milage of each vehicle on the way
-terrain
-stops along the way
-speed

i assumed a decent highway gas milage, and a gas price of $2.90 USD for a gallon of gas.

truck:
780 miles divided by 12mpg = 65 gallons of gas.

car:
780 miles divided by 20mpg = 39 gallons of gas

65gallons plus 39gallons = 104gallons

104 gallons times $2.90 per gallon is appx $300.

The 8-15 m.p.g on the truck, is not what it's going to get towing a car behind. 6 to 8 m.p.g for 780 miles, at an average of $2.70 per gallon. 130 to 98 gallons@ $2.70 = $351.00 to $264.60. To get your answer divide m.p.g into miles, then multiply by price.

Are you towing the Crown Vic? If so..expect about 6mpg out of the truck.

I drove a 20 foot from California to Ohio towing a Ford f150 and it cost roughly $800 in gas...although gas was a buck fifty then.

$530.00 gas gets expensive in a few remote areas
try to top off when it gets to the half tank mark then you can save as much as $80.00-$120.00 off the gas.

Try to refill at the truck stops, good gas prices.

The other Answers are good but because you didn't mention where your traveling the gas prices in other states change and the octane count to. There caculation will be close but ive seen gas in Utah as high as $4.03 pergallon and in Neveda you'd think it would be higher but it was only $2.68 per gal.

780/8=97.5
780/17=46

97.5+46 = 143.5 gal @ $3.15 gal = $452

roughly about $450 dollars.
