You haven't seen it happen because of the vigilence over 220 years bby people and groups you probably despise.
The purpose of the "establishment" clause is to prevent the governement from establishing any rules that favor one religiion over another. Period.
It is also prohibiting governement from creating a new religion out of whole cloth, as happened in England with the Anglican Church(if Iunderstnad my history right).
Quite simply, all are free to practice their religion, without the government expressing an opinion or using its powers (as granted by the people, remember that clause too? ) in any way pro- or con- any religion at all.
If one is itnerested in the success of theocraces, one can look to some of the Muslim countries, or to the Vatican I suppose. Both are grand examples of tolerance among the citizens for other religions, huh?
Israel also has government sanctioned rules regarding releigion, although they are not as strict aas the above examples - ther are Cristinas and Musliims in Israel, and a variety of secular and non-secular Jews. Even that level of tolerance is abhorrent to Americans, although it is often what the evangelists and far-right seem to be preaching.

The constitution of the United States says there should be a separation between church and state. Anyone can practice what ever religion or the lack there of. The government can not support (or denounce) any religion. That is why it is banned in public schools which are supported by tax dollars. If one goes to a private school, it is up to the school what they do in term of religion. Most Muslims do not destroy buildings and it is prejudice to assume so. (this is a Jew talking, not a Muslim!)

They certainly don't embrace the Muslims, and aren't anti-Christian. Do you think it was the Muslim vote that landed George W in the White House? No, it was the evangelical Christians. Do remember that George is evangelical himself.

America has become a country of wusses. Yes many people talk tough here, act tough in their car, but face to face they practically wet their pants if someone makes a loud noise.
In truth we are quickly becoming a nation of posers. The Muslims do not just roll over like the Christians do so we placate them.

That's garbage, we learned from your mistakes not to put religion in government. We don't take it from whatever brand of Christian, or despite the fanatics, whatever branch of Judaism, or Muslims. We have a constitutional rule that sets no one religion as established to be the official religion of the US, this of course frosts some people and they keep trying to sneak it in.
That's how you keep it free. You maintain freedom for all whether or not you agree with them or they agree with you.
