Would rather defend yourself?

2007-09-26 06:01:59 · 24 answers · asked by Anonymous in Politics & Government Law & Ethics

Gavin I'm not hiding anything and I don't watch TV except for CSI New York. I just love that show!

And I don't trust any of them. I have friends that are and I still don't trust them. My personal experience is they think they are above everyone else and the truth does not matter. I'm not saying they are all like that just the mass majority. I asked this question because I know someone in seriouse trouble at no fault of her own; and no not me. I'm trying to help her and to get her some help. If she can be.

I have never been in "trouble" with the law, but I can say with certainty that I don't have any faith in the police.

I was once pulled over for going through a yellow light. In court, the officer flat out lied about the details and I had no proof. All the judge needed for proof on his side was his word. I looked at the cop with disbelief and he smiled at me. I couldn't believe it.

Another time, I called the police for a neighbor disturbance. The officer was quite aggressive and patronizing and wore an "I dare you" stance. Like he was trying to provoke me? I got the feeling his badge gave him license to abandon common courtesy or else gave him authority to treat others with complete disrespect.

I have never met a nice or helpful cop.

I live in a small town and the police here behave more like the mafia than officers of the law---backing up the "family" first. I dare not complain about how I was treated lest I agree to subject myself to gratuitous traffic tickets every time I leave my driveway. This is common knowledge here.

I hate to sound extreme here or offend anyone, but I'm tired of hearing of cops who have been killed on duty referred to as heroes. For doing their jobs? It's a trade-ff; risk for power. All of the cops I have met have had major power issues. It's worth it for most of them to have a risky job in order to be able to harness the power described above--to be able to approach anyone and make them feel humble in their presence.

I'm deeply saddened that this is how it is.

Sorry if I have offended anyone.

I would ask for there help. That's what their trained for, and most of them have been in LE for a long time, and will probably know whats best.Of course I'm sure they are some slackers out there but over all I think that they would do what they could to help and protect me.

Wow, I read some of the other comments and had to come back and make a couple more statements. I work within the criminal justice system ( not in law enforcement) I work with victims of crimes. And although I'm very sympathetic to whatever crime as been apposed on them, I'll be honest, if you don't tell them what they want to hear, most victims get outraged. Being a officer is not easy, they put their lives on the line every day to protect us. And even though most people think that the police hasn't done anything for them, they have. Officers go about their duties without being recognized for what they do. Not to mention, they hardly get a salary.

It depends what I would need help with. I know the POlice and FBI are there and they have the resources to help me but if it's something along the lines of organized crime I would probably have to hide out and find my own way to get out of that situation. I AM NOT GENERALIZING but there are a lot of cops and other law enforcement ind. that sawy to the other side of the law becuase the money is there. But for the most part I would let the cops take care of it.

Cops, especially the Cuban born mutts that run the Miami Police Department are the most corrupt and despicable cheaters of justice that have ever worn a badge.

They are unstoppable trigger-happy lunatics with a deeply rooted inferiority complex, supported by a Cuban born Mayor with the mentality that if people are not Cuban born and of means, they can be shot on site and later an allegation of "self-defense" (oh, it looked like he was reaching for somesing in his pocket...") is accepted.

I'd rather deal with the Feds, Homeland Insecurity and Iraqi insurgents!

"Please do not judge them until you have walked a mile in their shoes.
These men and women you are so quick to abuse.

For behind the badge is a Father a Mother that has a family of their own,
they plan to return to when their duty is done.

They miss birthdays and holidays and the list goes on. Just to protect your wife your son.
The pay is bad the days are long and still they put the uniform on.

So think about it if you would, for just a moment if you could,
the horrors they face every day are the ones we pray never come our way.

They hold a child as he dies and comfort the mother as she cries.
And yet you complain about a speeding ticket you obtained.

Many have paid the ultimate price, giving up their life,
to Serve and Protect you and I.

So please get a clue and do not judge them until you have walked a mile in their shoes!"

Well. let's see EVERY time I've turned to the police for help when I was a victim of a crime I was not helped....

So, no I do not trust the police. Although, I still believe there are good ones out there. I just haven't encountered them.

God bless.

I've had my share of run ins with Law Enforcement
The Secret Service treated me with respect
The FBI treated me with respect
The only ones I've disrespect me were county and city
I say if you need a Law Enforcement Officer go to the appropiate one - Let me know how you did

I think that most of the time the average working class man or woman in law enforcement can be trusted, but I wouldn't go trusting them too far.

I trust my local police and the FBI for help if needed more than I do the local judges though.

If I couldn't legally defend myself, I would run like hell to the next town over and ask the police there for help.

after the last few big crimes in my town, I don't trust my police force to find their @$$ with both hands tied behind their backs.
