See how it says "Provide" for defense, but "Promote" for "General Welfare"???

WOW, the tone of some of these answers.

No, trillions is NOT OK for Iraq. Why are we there again? WMD? 9/11? read the above posts, most of these people have bought into the universal health care=socialism propaganda. The reality is we need to establish some kind of health care plan that is available to all. I think some of you better recheck your numbers, it's more than 1/16 of the population that's uninsured. Thenyou have the folks that are underinsured. It's a problem, and anyone who doesn't think so or thinks they have great insurance is either blind to the truth or hasn't had anyone in their immediate family get sick.

If we implement some kind of health care plan (which doesn't necessarily HAVE to be run by the gov't as a few of you have bleated) it would definately free up a lot of people from stress which is a main contributor to illness. I personally know of one woman who is working a job that she hates, is completely stressed out about, for the insurance. Another woman I know is getting married for the insurance benefits, and hopefully she'll be covered and not denied as a pre existing condition. Someone else I know has worked hard his whole life, his company cut his insurance and he was diagnosed with a life threatening illness. Anyone who thinks the "free" coverage in hospital clinics is so great should go there themselves and see how great it is.

The US really needs to get past this "All for me" attitude of entitlement. Just because you have a job with benefits does not make you better, smarter, more charming or attractive than someone else. When are you people going to get it? If one person is suffering, we all suffer, because sooner or later it's going to be your turn.

If you need healthcare you can get it at any county hospital emergency room and free clinics. If you can't pay, don't worry the taxpayers pick up the tab. A very large # of people without health care could get it from their employers, but THEY are the ones who elect not to have the coverage. Universal healthcare will eventually lead to worse healthcare than we have now. Just study the Brits system and evalulation of the care they are afforded.
On the other hand, $ for Iraq are supported by the officials that were elected by your neighbors, friends and yourself, that is if they voted. If they did not vote then do not ask any questions about the way govt is run, unless you are just too young to vote. Only approx less than 20% of people eligible to vote do vote and that is a problem in this country. At least over 80% of the people of Iraq voted in their election. Those trillions of $ let 80% of the people of one country vote for the first time in their lives. So I say--it IS worth it.

'Cause universal health care sounds like charity or welfare for a bunch of minorities who lack the motivation to help themselves become wealthy enough to afford insurance. Fighting wars kicks azz. It's just more macho.

Only 1/6 of the country doesn't have health care. This would make it a minor issue.... If you consider the cost of universal health care, I don't see how you would find that beneficial. With social security drying up, how can you advocate spending even more money on ANOTHER social program? Eventually the Iraq war will end, it has a finite price tag. UHC never ends.

Because conservatives are afraid of having a government run industry. Theres no way to make a profit off that.
In truth, Universal coverage, is a subsidy for affording health care insurance from present insurers, they would still be getting those obscene increases each year while at the same time diminishing benefits paid out.
All that's going to do is delay the inevitable.
But at least that's a start.

We have universal health care. Anybody who needs it can get treatment.

It's the payment side that the issue is at.

And, if you care about facts, we've not even spent 1/2 trillion in Iraq yet and healthcare is not an enumerated Constitutional power of the federal government.
