Typically, yes. However, all babies thrive at a different pace. If this is something you feel concerned about, I would discuss it with your pediatrician, and he or she should be able to help you out :)

If she's 8 months and doesn't show ANY interest in sitting, I would discuss it with the doctor. It may be okay, but sometimes developmental delays can be a symptom of something else.

Does she enjoy sitting up if she is sitting up in your lap? If you pull her up by the arms from a laying position toa sitting, does she hold her head steady or does it roll back? If you sit her on her bottom and let her lean forward, does she have enough muslce control to sit up for a few seconds before losing balance?

Every child is differant! Don't compare your child to everyone elses. Each child will do things in their time, sometimes they just decide that they are ready and with in a day they are rocken and rollen, with no sign that they are going to do anything...it just happens.
IF you are concerned about your baby developmentally then by all means see her pediatrician, but if he has seen her and has said that everything is fine then take heart in the fact that it does change!
Do you get her up and stand her on your legs or the floor while holding onto under her arms? This can sometimes raise their interest in being upright.
Either way, if everything is physically o.k. (checked by the doctor) then don't worry...she will develop when she is ready!!
Some babies like to just take their time!

babies at that age should be sitting, rolling over, crawling and starting to pull up and stand with assistance. I would ask your pediatrician if she/he can evaluate her for some problems that might be causing this. I am sorry I don't have any more answers than that. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

don't worry, mine only sat now, he's 8 months old. my first was walking at 8 months, but my 2nd is just sitting now. I think he is lazy. I wouldn't worry too much she will do everything when she's ready. do you prop her up to sit with pillow support, that helps. ask for the advice of your pediatrician.

*Most* babies sit by 6 months. Not all do. Is she otherwise developing normally? What does the pediatrician say?

Yeah its not okay that she's not trying to sit up... she should be seen. My son's been sitting since 4 months, although 6 months is average.
