I'd rather fly, but for the price of the tickets, it would be cheaper to drive, and you would have a car once you got there. Otherwise, you would have to take taxis which runs up the price. The distance from LA to LV is about 270 mi. according to Yahoo maps.

it's about a 4 hour drive through the most boring scenery imaginable- but drive anyway.... it's only 4 hours! By the time you have to get to the airport, wait the required 1-2 hours, fly for an hour and deplane and get your bags and get to your hotel, it'll be at least 4 hours anyway. We used to drive back and forth all the time when we lived in LV and visited Disneyland or relatives in LA- now we live in TN and fly to Disney- cuz there's no better place and Disneyworld isn't as good!

i currently live in LA. Ive drove to vegas plenty of times and im actually moving there in 2 months. i personally think that if you have the right crowd, take a road trip. the earlier that you leave, the better. it also depends on what days you are going out there.. if you leave on a friday in the morning, make sure its early, and hopefully there wont be any events going on that weekend, that would make there be more traffic.
yes flying is much easier, but like others said, the time you spend waiting at the airport and checking in, and bla bla bla, you will already be more than half way to vegas, and you are in the comfort of your own car.
i say drive.
enjoy the drive too.. its not too bad, unless you have bad company like i said.. have fun!

I live in Vegas and drive to So CA about 4 times a year for work. I have found that with the time it takes to check in the airports, get a car, then get to your destination, the time frame is about equal. If you are delayed for the flight, you have sat in the airport sometimes as long as in the car. I would have to vote to drive, save the money for the time you are here. Make sure you fill up in LA and before leaving LV though, gas in Baker and Barstow can eat into that savings!!

I will never understand why people (if they're not in a hurry) would ever want to fly from city to city(in The United States, I mean). This is such a huge country with so many different regions and landscapes, driving across it would be a tremendous experience and it certainly won't be anything you'd forget.

I say: Drive!

Flying is definitely faster. The last time i drove from Las Vegas to California. It was a wonderful sight-seeing experience for me. I can stop as and when i want for shopping and restaurants. The drive take a few hours but enjoyable.

If it's a weekend I would rather fly. The 15 is CRAZY on the weekends. You'll be sitting in traffic both ways. I'd check southwest.com for some cheap plane tickets. But if you're going during the week, you should drive. Then again with the price of gas...

Drive -

To fly it will cost $100+/- per person. You have to arrange for transportation/parking to/from both LA area airport and LV airport. For LV, depending on where you stay that will be approx $15-$20 for a cab ride for 3 people to hotel mid-strip (i.e. Flamingo). You also have the at least 2 hours of security BS on the departing side for each flight. Assume it takes you 1 hour from your home to get to the airport, 45 minute flight. Total time from your home to your hotel in LV will be slightly over 4 hours and cost your a minimum of $320.

To drive, assume 30 MPG for your car and 300 mile drive, and 70Mph. You will use 10 gallons of gas each way, cost $30.00. The drive door to door will take 4 hours and 1/2 hours. In LV you may have to pay for parking depending on where you stay.

You will save a few hundred if you all ump in the car at 5:00 a.m. and drive there. You will get there in plenty of time for brunch. You will take one and one third tanks of gas to get there and back. That will be the only expense if you drive.
If you have enough money that this is not enough financial incentive to drive, then you should fly.

You may be able to get some really good flights for cheap prices. Check airlines first, figure what it would cost to drive and the time. Then make your choice, it's a personal preference what you do.

Check Southwest Airlines they normally have good rates.

Have fun.
