I was sat at temporary traffic lights on a dark country lane
at 3 am for what seemed to be an eternity
i was in two minds whether to drive off through a red light
but the way my driving mind works is telling me
if you take one short cut or easy option you will start to take more risks each time you drive and thats not what i do,the rulebook says no going through a red light,im not in an emergency situation or a rush of any kind,be patient it pays off better, the lights changed and i moved ooff just a hundred yards along the road a police vehicle was behind me from out of nowhere and overtook me and drove on ahead,me thinks the police car was watching what people will do when they think its ok to break the rules if they think there is nobody around to see

Heck yeah! I'm with you, except I would use my enhanced powers of perception and awareness to keep my momentum going E-V-E-R-Y time! No second thoughts if all the conditions were just like you described them, and assuming it was a stretch of road I was very familiar with.
When I was 16, and newly licensed in Kentucky, there was a six-mile stretch of road that I had traveled on foot, by bike, by tractor, and observed from a passenger seat since I'd been age ten. It's called Ruddles Mills Road in Bourbon County and it's still there as it was.
Anyhow, I remember driving that road during daylight and dark of night, age 16, in a 1969 Chevy Malibu (this was 1976)
and there being little traffic on this winding, hilly challenge-course, I would "punch it!" I could do it without headlights, and remember freaking' some passengers out back then.
I once beat a cop when we unexpectedly crossed paths and I was doin' 110mph. I punched and ducked into a construction site for cover.
I got caught one nite though when I was on a motorcycle, thought I could EASILY out-run the cop, but was unknowingly hiding behind the bushes of his buddy's yard (also a cop!)
In this area, when you're riding a cycle, and you're sitting at a red light, you're not as heavy as an auto. Therefore, you don't "trip" the light-changing mechanism. So, you will see lotsa motorcyclists running red lights after a minute wait.

I'd always stop and look around and proceed with caution. But only if the light didn't seem to be changing. Blow a red and yer insurance goes up big time. Most lights in the middle of nowhere are either set to flash yellow or red depending on the light and location and time of day.

Because so many lights here are on timers rather than based traffic, I pretend they're stop signs when it's the middle of the night. If there's a camera above the light, though, I sit my behind right there.

I would treat it like a stop sign. I often slow to a near stop at the stop sign. While I am nearly stopped, I 1) Check for any cross traffic 2) Check for any cops in sight and 3) Gently roll on through it.

This happened to me when I was taking my parents to the airport at 4 in the morning. I was tired, grumpy and impatient. That particular set of lights take ages, as it is a heavy traffic area during the day. I drove straight through the three sets.

Probably not in a city. But if the light freeze (which sometimes happen here in the sub arctic) I'll proceed if nothing's coming. Also, when out the backroads I do not signal when making a turn.

I would stop, they have cameras at the intersections now, so I wouldn't want a ticket for running the red light.

Do you have to stop at red lights? wish someone had told me. Just think of the lives that could have been saved.

I would have to stop. The popo are hiding in my trunk of the trees. There is no hope that they aren't there they are.
