I was preping my bathroom so I can paint it. I knew the flooring was not much to look at (when I rented this house) It has been covered with large blue tape. BUT wow I found that underneith it has no flooring it's like rotted wood.
Is there a way I can safely through some cover up cheep flooring over it and I would also need a way to protect myself from mold. And suggestions? MY landlord will not assit, he says my rent is very cheep so I should fix it. Help I can't afford to do a good job. But I can be handy.

Don't take the advice of Bronces88 you didn't ask to rent, the landlord will just ask you to leave, then what?

Your going to have to take the toilet out, then put in 5/8 plywood for your floor, it won't take that much for a bathroom, how big is it? two maybe three sheets, a cheap lino. You might get by for $100.00 bucks, don't be to particular.

The floor being rotted is from the tub or toilet leaking. If you are on the ground floor termites underground can also contribute to the moisture. Talk to the landlord again it is his responsibility. If you want to fix the floor and be able to stand on it without falling through the plumbing has to be looked at first. If he refuses contact the housing authority in your area. you don't have to pay rent until he starts fixing things. You could also sue him for the mold. Don't put out any money that you shouldn't.

I'm not too familiar with replacing flooring, but I am familiar with landlords.

If you're renting and someone else owns the building, it is thier responsibility to fix it. Hands down, it should not be your responsibility. I don't care if you pay $1 in rent.

If it's a saftey issue, he has to fix it. If something were to happen and someone were to get injured becuase of that wood, it's on your landlords head.

I don't know what kind of relationship you have with your landlord or what city you live in, but if he won't help, you could call a building inspector or call the city to find out what kind of rules are in place for a situation like this.

If you're renting, you should not have to sink your own money into fixing something you don't own.

A 10% bleach / water solution should help control the mold, but there is a problem with the plumbing that is causing the problem with the floor. If you just cover it up with some cheap floor covering, it won't last long and the problem won't just go away. The landlord is responsible for taking care of this problem. It is his house and he is charging you for living there.

my advice before you try and fix it find somewhere else to rent. it makes no sense to be renting hazardous flats to people your landlord is very stupid and if he does not want to fix it report him. he is risking people's lives.
