This was a town hall meeting and let me remind you that Atlanta is far from being your average ''southern town".

ATLANTA POORLY REPRESENTED ON ESPN TOWN HALL MEETING

I hope many of you managed to see that Sports Center special on ESPN last night. I was one of the panelists discussing "The Michael Vick Divide." The experience was very enjoyable, but I must admit that I was shocked by a good portion of the audience at the Sydney Marcus auditorium at the Georgia World Congress Center. Where did they get those people? (Well, not all of them .. but a good portion of them.) They were booing former Falcons defensive standout Chuck Smith for saying that Michael Vick committed a felony and had to pay the price, and when the moderator asked the audience to show by their applause whether or not dog fighting should be legal, the overwhelming response was that it should! Are these people serious? Dog fighting should be legal?
I'm sorry, but I can't help but thing that the audience there last night embarrassed Atlanta and themselves.

I took this from Neal Boort’s site and there is a poll asking the question above.

I thought it was legal!!!

Oh wait... I was thinking about our political campaign system. Dog Fights / Political Campaigns. They are both brutal and need to be outlawed!

In all seriousness, anyone that feels Dog Fighting should be legal needs to be put in a cage. If that crowd was representative of Atlanta, our country is in deeper trouble than I thought.

The obviously ignorant respondents in here like libsticker and hippie are just that, ignorant.
To say that Atlanta should be ashamed for condoning this is beyond stupid. First off, those folks that were saying dog fighting is okay and should be legalized are from the same camp as Vick. THE GHETTO!.
Second, the fighting took place in Virginia, not Georgia, and we found out about it the same exact time the rest of the nation did.
Many people don't realize it but Atlanta and the surrounding area is considered to have one of the highest levels of quality of life in the U.S.
That town hall meeting was attended by nothing more than a bunch of knuckle dragging, mouth breathing Neanderthal democrats.
That's a native Atlantan's politically correct way of referring to a black person with gold teeth from the hood. We call 'em a Democrat.

These are not isolated incidents..... This goes on every where! ... No, It doesn't surprise one bit.. The reason these people do what they do for a living, Is because they are getting paid very well... They don't care about kids....ie... (Adoptees).. They can care less what kind of family the adoptee gets placed with, As long as their money is green , They are happy.... Its not about finding the best adoptive parents possible, Its about which one has the deepest pockets..... Its nothing more than a business transaction...... You know there is a old saying..." If life was fair, There would be no rich people" I cant tell you how true that is.... I would have more respect for these people if they sold drugs or robbed banks.... The only one who suffers the consequences is the adoptee.... Why do you think some of these adoption agencies have been in business for over 50, 70 yrs..... Cause business is booming.... Love Few, Hate Many, Trust No One...

I think that dog fighting is cruel for the animal that dies but it wakens an ancient human instinct for bloodlust and that is why humans find it exciting. Not all humans though because some are dead emotionally from the toes up but a lot of people watching two dogs fighting to the death or very near death find it exciting. Legalise it? It is not my decision. I own a dog. Would I want my dog to fight to the death? No. If my dog happened to have a fight in the street with another dog and my dog tore it to pieces would I feel sorrow for the other dog? No. Would I be excited that my dog had survived and beaten the other dog? Yes. Do I think that the ESPN audience was representative of the people who live in Atlanta? I haven't got a clue.

Sorry I missed it. Dog fighting is a sport? I guess if people that find sport in two animals trying to kill each other with vicious attacks sport, then they should join the military where two animals try to kill each other that have a choice in the matter. I guess these same people must believe in the "draft" because I don't remember any dogs volunteering to do this. I find no humor, no honor, and certainly no justification in any animal fighting "sports", to include cock fighting, cat fighting or mongoose and snake. We are suppose to be the intelligent life on the planet, but I sometimes wonder. As far as Vick goes, he is still innocent until proved guilty, once he has had his day in court, and should he be convicted, then he should do the maximum sentence allowed by law, and he should take his punishment like the dogs he let fight took theirs. The people of Atlanta should be ashamed of themselves for even condoning such behavior and it certainly gives the city a black eye.

Hopefully not representative of south or Atlanta. I have friends in Florida, Alabama, Texas and none of them see dog fighting as legitimate or anything less than a cruel abuse of animals. Vick needs to be found guilty on his state charges so that after his federal crime sentence is over he can be transferred to state prison for a few more years. That way we get this fool out of sports for years so the only sport we can let him play is having raw meat tied to his legs and wild animals are let lose in a coliseum to chase him down.

Having lived close to Atlanta for about 5-6 years I don't think this audience is representative of Atalanta citizens. I think it brought out some people who want to wear blinders when it comes to the bad behavior of their heroes.

Yesterday I heard Virginia was charging him with some crimes related to the dogfighting that could put him jail for 40 years. This seems a little excessive to me. I would hate to think we put people in jail longer for animal cruelty than we do for example, rape, or crimes against children. He has to pay a price. I guess I'm not sure what it should be.

I hope not. I am guessing it brought out the redneck, Deliverance backwoods type of resident and the back alley dog fighters.

It may have been in response to the animal protesters at Vick's court appearance.

No civilized person thinks dog fighting is OK.

Yes I heard some of that this morning. So basically it was the race issue that the crowd was backing Vick, but on the other hand is the PETA liberals fighting against it... Its Lib on Lib... I was shocked at the crowd support of the dog fights though...

Hey you can't attack them for that, it's their "culture". Sick huh? Also may people of color thing blacks shouldn't be held to the same standards as everyone else. Look at the Jena Six stuff, because some idiots hung nooses in a tree a month ago doesn't make it alright to stomp on an unconscious white guy's head. But some folks think it does. Weird, and messed up, huh?
