Hi,

My husband and I are ttc for 10 months now and my Dr. has put me on clomid this month for the first time. He also would like to do a progesterone test at cd 21. What will this test tell me? It just so happens that my cd 21 falls on a Sunday, so should I go in on Friday or Monday to have it checked? Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

A progesterone test on CD21 will tell him two things: 1) if ovulation has taken place--right after ovulation your progesterone level rises and 2) if you have enough progesterone to sustain pregnancy, should you have gotten pregnant this cycle. Progesterone is responsible for a nice healthy uterine lining for the baby to implant to, so your progesterone level will tell the doctor if you have enough to support early pregnancy.

Since CD21 is Sunday, I would make the appt for Monday morning.

Good luck!

Progesterone is what builds up your endometruim (uterus lining) to let an egg implant for pregnancy.. When an egg is fertalized it will try to implant on your uterus lining and grow there the first trimester (especially in the first 8-10 weeks) When a woman becomes pregnant she will naturally produce progestrone and then after about 8-10 weeks the platentia will produce enough. If a woman is not producing enough progestrone then the egg will not implant or hold in the uterus lining thus causing a miscarriage or not being able to get pregnant at all. This can occur in women that are older.
my wife and i just went through all this...good luck

My doctor had me do a progesterone test as well, and he said that it would tell him whether or not I ovulated that cycle.

I think you'll be fine with going in on Monday, my OBGYN gave me a three day period from which i could pick one day to have the test done.

Good luck and baby dust!!!

Preogesterone is what carries your pregnancy the 1st trimester..i have to be on progesterone during the first trimester b/c my body doesnt make enough of it it carry the pregnancy. After the first trimester you dont have to take it any longer b/c the placenta takes over.

It will tell him how much progesterone (femal hormone) that your body is producing.
