A cloud burst is a sudden violent rainstorm falling for a short period on a small area. The rain is of shower type with the rate of rainfall sometimes exceeding 100 mm per hour.
Cloud bursts are usually associated with thunderstorms. So the rainfall will somtimes occur with hail and thunder.
The air currents rushing upwards in a thunderstorm(updrafts) hold up a large amont of water. If these currents suddenly cease, the entire amount of water descends on to a small area with a catastrophic force all of a sudden and causes minor flood condition and destruction. This is mainly due to the rapid condensation of the clouds releasing lot of rain drops.
They occur most often in mountain regions, desert and in interior regions of continental landmasses.
They are called 'bursts' probably it was believed earlier that cloud were solid masses full of water and the violent storms were attributed to their bursting.

I've never heard of anyone dying from a cloud burst. It is a sudden strong rain. It usually lasts less than 5 minutes. There can be sun right before and after or light showers.

This is an old term that was used to describe a sudden inundation of heavy rain from usually a convective cell. It has no meteorological use anymore. In modern terminology, forecasters usually refer to rate of rainfall (inches or mm per hour) rather than a cloud burst. The rate of rainfall is a more accurate term and gives a guide as to how much rain can be expected depending on the duration of the heavy rain.

A cloudburst is an extreme form of rainfall, from time to time mixed with hail and thunder, which generally lasts now not than a couple of minutes yet is able to developing flood circumstances. whilst the clouds get saturated to the element the place it might desire to now not carry to any extent further moisture, its course is obstructed via mountainous terrain, the unanimous condensation happens. The phenomena is violent and destroys each and every concern as hundreds of thousands of gallon of water drops from the sky at a time and takes shape of large flood.this is named a cloud burst and that's a climate phenomena .

I could be wrong, but I heard it's when it rains really really hard ....for a few seconds, and then stops, and the sky clears up.
Atleast that's what we call a cloud burst around here, but I dont see how anyone could die from that...unless they were looking up, and drowned :P

A cloud burst is a sudden, drenching rain. It can cause heavy run-off, swelling rivers, and what appear to be dry creeks or arroyos. Unexpected rises in water levels can be dangerous.

I've never heard of anyone dying due to a cloudburst; it's just a sudden, heavy rain shower. I HAVE heard of people dying in the midst of a micro-burst, which is heavy, cold air dropping out of the sky; it can force airplanes down, with disastrous results.
