Okay, those KFC Snacker that look like they have a paper wrapper well it actually is tin foil and I microwaved it and of course it sparked up. Now when I microwave anything the metal part on the top of the microwave sparks up so I have stopped using it. It is one of those microhoods, so I am hesitant to replace it. A simple 50 dollar microwave isnt' optional, I will have to buy another microhood. Anyways, is it worth calling a repairman out? Or is it shot? Obviously sparks aren't good, please don't give me any blonde comments, I know it was a dumb move but is the microwave doomed? :) Thanks !

Ask for a repair estimate. It is a cost/benefit analysis regarding repair or replace (or do without and get a $50 one for the counter)..

It's doomed. Time to buy a new one. I have installed a couple of OTR microwaves (over the range) in the past. Replacing the one you have won't be terribly difficult. Trying to fix the old one would be a waste of $$.

I just put a brand new OTR microwave in my remodeled kitchen. Stainless steel, GE, with outside venting. It cost $250 at Lowes. The one before was a clearance model Ewave from Home Depot and it only cost $115.

If it is a really expensive unit, have it looked at. If not just replace it. Sounds like you have done some serious damage to it. I wouldn't try to have it fixed and I do most of my own repairs. I also have been a high frequency( Radio Frequency)
tech. and would be afraid of using this around humans. It is probably radiating all over the area in front of it. You are probably getting some of the leaky radiation, is your makeup running after using this! sorry couldn't help myself.

my mom did the same thing with a similar unit. it was cheaper to replace it than have it repaired, the repair man said he would not guarentee the work. the microwave is shot , quit using it before it explodes or catches fire and but an new one.

make sure you have removed all the pieces of foil and take a look at the edge of the heating element (magnetron) if it is burned you will need to replace it. 75 bucks for the part and labor will be about another hundred.

it will never be the same. It will last for a while but it can be dangerous, possibly start a fire. good luck
