My due date determined by ultrasound is Nov. 16th which would mean I am 32 weeks. However the nurse just estimated me at 34 weeks based on the tape measure- a tried and true method.
Which should I rely on? Obviously they are both just estimates but I'd like to hear about any one else's experience. Has this happened to you & if so which measurement was the more accurate based on when you delivered?
Thank you all!! =)

I would go with the ultrasound. It is a little more scientific with measurements of the actual baby, and not just a general measurement of your stomach.

You go by the early u/s date. Dates within the first three or so months by ultrasound are very accurate. At that gestational age most babies are about the same size.

The uterine measurement (the tape measure) measures how big your uterus. It tells them how baby is growing. If you are measuring more than two weeks behind or ahead it could be a sign that something is wrong with the baby. A lot of times, it is just how baby is laying though. But it gives them a point to check from. However, once you have reached 34-36 weeks, it is no longer accurate as baby is beginning to drop and your measurements will be off.

Okay, all that to say, early u/s is what you go by. But the other measurement lets you know how things are doing.

When did you get the ultrasound to determine to the due date? If it was earlier than you are now at 32 weeks, it's most likely accurate. The ultrasounds performed in the beginning of the pregnancy are the ones my doctors base it on, no matter what I'm measuring. My due date right now is October 27th, making me 35 weeks and 4 days but I'm measuring and have been measuring about 4-5 weeks bigger. Trust me, I wish they'd change my due date but they said it could just be the way the baby is laying to make your stomach a little bigger.

Good luck with everything!!

I always measured 5 weeks under with the tape measure. I think it is a just a guess and they hit some where in the mid. They told me because I measured so small my son was most likely going to be small maybe 6 pounds at the most they said He was 8 10 and 21 in. Everyone carries different. I was two weeks past my due date from the ultrasound and 3 weeks before the tape measure said i was due

Most Accurate Tape Measure

According to my ultrasound I am due on Christmas. According to the tape I am due on Nov 24. So, the ultrasound is typically more reliable because the tape could measure baby in an odd position or you could have excess fluid, etc. But the size of the baby's parts, are a very good indicator of how far you really are.

If you always had regular periods, I'd be more inclined to believe that over an ultrasound. However, if your new due date is past your original due date, then I wouldn't worry about it. You won't be put on such a tight time clock as you would for the original due date. That's a good thing. These days, they are chomping on inducing way earlier than 42 weeks and that isn't right.

I would say ultrasound is accurate as they measure the actual baby, when they measure the bump it also includes water etc. When I was 34 wks I only measured 28 so sent me for a sizing scan and although I did have problems with my placenta which caused a small baby, at the sizing scan baby wasn't quite as small as they first thought as I didn't have much water.

the ultrasound is the more accurate measurement. The belly measure can be off it you have any extra fat , or if you have a longer or shorter torso than the average pregnant woman. The ultrasound measures the actual baby, not just the area he lives in!!

Neither! The ultrasound is just measuring the baby and then estimating based on the average sized baby. This is like saying the averaged sized human, there is a great deal of variation. the tape measure is the same thing. If you have a larger then "average" baby, you're going to measure big for your dates. Go from your LMP date. That is the most accurate.
