Good Question!

I used to get like that. I used to really really look forward to christmas, and then when it got here i'd be bored with it. This is because I would spend every free second shopping for gifts, wrapping gifts, writing cards, baking etc etc

So by christmas I was too stressed to enjoy. But my boyfriend who always has the christmas spirit, gets upset when I feel like that. So this year, so as not to upset him I am getting organised early!!!!

I have already made 18 cards, bought and wrapped 5 gifts, made tree decorations, made a centre piece and baked cookies and put them in the freezer ready for xmas!

Happy holidays!

I think there are a few reasons. First, Christmas decorations, music, and sellable things are out in stores WAY too early! Some of the stores here put stuff out before Halloween! So I get pretty tired of it by the time December rolls around.

The other reason I can think of is because there's such an emphasis put on gifts gifts and more gifts! Peope have to wait in long lines in crowded stores and how many people really like that? It probably puts them into a bad mood. Christmas isn't fun when you think it's all about greed and commercialism.

People have a tendency to focus on the obligations and responsibilities of the season rather than on the meanings why we do it all in the first place. They begrudge the money they are spending, but they do it because they feel like they have to, not because they want to.

I think this is the wrong approach. I think people should give what they feel moved to give and no more. It's supposed to be a celebration of giving, caring, love, family, and community, and a celebration of light in the darkest time of the year. That needs to be the spirit behind it all.

If people feel it's over-commercialized and a pain, they should scale back and only give from the heart. Otherwise they're going against what it's all about.

Heck, the gifts my family likes best are pictures of the kids. And the kids just get a few new toys. There's no reason to overspend.

I have asked the same , My thoughts are that its a money scheme now and the true meaning is being buried . many yrs ago i stopped having Christmas tree , We put up a manger scene and thats it we do have gifts and I tell kids etc do not go over board , the gifts are put down by the manger ...Christ is and was the the Gift how do you out do that . the assoc. of gifts came appox 2 yrs later with the wise men , and God knows how many yrs later along came santa . My children all grown up dont miss the scene either its always been a peacful day since. Yes we are Christians . The sad thing is how many churches etc put the wise men out at the manger scene and they were never thier, only the shepherds showed

To me, I think it's because people are so focused on all the "this is what I HAVE to do" parts of Christmas (cards, buying presents, visiting relatives, making a big dinner, etc.), that they lose track of what Christmas really is.

It doesn't have to be this way. There's nothing wrong with a little shopping in advance, planning a simple meal without so many people, staying in this year or simply giving money to charity in someone's name...

Christmas can be wonderful, peaceful, RELATIVELY stress-free, and really fulfilling... but they have to get off the hamster-wheel first.

God bless.

I love Christmas but it's also a stressful, making sure everybody gets the right present. Making sure I spent enough money on people who spend a lot of money on my family. Last year I tried asking my in-laws to just buy all the kids presents and not the adults, but they refuse. My husband and I spend at least $3000 on Christmas, and every year the list of people to buy for gets longer.
This is why I am often relieved when Christmas is over, it's kind of sad!

People should never lose their SPIRIT but maybe they saw or did most of the things you do around Christmas.

I think it's because the season keeps starting earlier and earlier every year.......the moment Halloween is over, X-mas stuff starts going up, without even a nod to Thankgsgiving. After all those specials and shopping and ads....the holiday finally gets here and we're just sick of it by then.
