Teenagers:
Lack of education. Yes, the information is out there, but schools generalize the issue and don't thoroughly explain everything there is to know. You can't tell a kid not to have sex or use a condom or bc and expect them to listen. You have to explain it all to them several times.
Adults:
Carelessness, again lack of education (some people just don't take the time to learn how their body really works), pending divorce or breakup (I know, it's not a good reason).
I know a woman (41) that knows she doesn't want kids, but is on bc. I asked her what she would do if the bc failed and she said abortion. I didn't say anything, but why not get your tubes tied???
I'm really getting irritated reading the posts that say lack of self control. These people must be teenagers.
It's not about what you do in that moment, but what you do in the months, weeks, and days leading up to it. Plan ahead. If you are sexually active you must have a plan. Use birth control, buy condoms and have them nearby, if you never want kids get a tubal. Bottom line is plan ahead.
Edit: My answer obviously doesn't include young girls, rape victims, health issues with mother or baby. I am just talking about those people that use abortion simply as a form of birth control.

Just because there is education out there doesn't mean the ignorance still persists. And currently the education people are receiving is that they shouldn't have sex. If you want to learn about various birth control options for women you have to research it on your own.
I have met people who honestly think that you can't get pregnant the first time you have sex. obviously the knowledge isn't reaching everyone.
Plus, many people are under the misconception that unprotected sex is a sign of true love. Or they have unprotected sex after sleeping with someone for about a month.
Because when people talk about the effectiveness of the birth control pill and other methods they always site the 'if used perfectly' statistics. A birth control pill if used perfectly is 99% effective, I've seen estimates of it being as low as 83% (none higher than 95%) when looking at real life use.

I am Pro-Choice. However, recently, my 13year old cousin got pregnant and the first thing the teen health center did was a blood test in the hopes that she was under 8 weeks and they could give her a morning after pill, when they found she was over, they scheduled her with the abortion clinic. All within an hour of finding out she was pregnant. She had not made a decision about anything yet -she was 13! She had not talked to her parents yet.
They were willing to do an abortion for her with 1 hour of counselling without asking her parents permission! WTF! I ratted her out and her dad convinced her to keep the baby. You can't just abort a baby because you are irresponsible.
It shouldn't be that easy and definitely not that comfortable. And it should not be an easy cure.

I think women still have abortions for other than medical and ethical reasons, because (1) society and legal system allow abortion for any whim and fancy of the mother-to-be and (2) smart women and feminists actively engage in propaganda to establish it is only a “woman’s body” issue not an issue regarding the life and death of another human being.
A fetus is a human being since it has homo-sapiens’ DNA and unlike a group of cultured human cells, has an “immune system” and will to live, fighting against harmful effects from outside such as disease / wounds from a pin prick etc

actually, you are incorrect. there are not many medical clinics that offer free birth control. birth control can be obtained through prescription only. additionally, the Bush administration has cut funding completely for organizations like Planned Parenthood in favor of funding abstinence only education. it was easier for women to obtain information about pregnancy and birth control in the 1970's than it is now.
and the fact that a father convinced his 13-13!-year old daughter to keep an unwanted child is deplorable, not admirable.

There are a variety of reasons for unwanted pregnancy:
Rape
Ignorance
Lack of self control
Simply not caring what happens
Women have abortions for a number of reasons; I believe it depends on the circumstances under which the child was conceived.
There are plenty of free clinics, but people avoid them for a number of reasons, the main one being that they don't want anyone to see them in there.
There are just a lot of irresponsible people in this world who do not think that their actions have an effect on society.

besides that not all birth control is 100% (which doesnt happen THAT often) people are lazy and careless. i was lazy thats how i got pregnant but i kept my kids and love them to death and would never have considered aborting them. my laziness is MY fault not THEIRS.
edit-and even if it requires a perscription many health departments offer it for very low cost. and condoms at almost any health department ARE free.

A good question. There are rape victims, birth defects and extreme dangers for the mother's well being... There are million things that could result in absolute necessity of the abortion. It also always a terrible tragedy in woman's life... Don't judge, unless you walked in our shoes...

Because birth control is not full proof. Only abstinence is.
And many women and men are too stupid or ignorant to realize that marital relations are just that FOR MARRIAGE ALONE. Single people have NO business engaging in them. Sin leads to worse sin. Premarital sex can lead to murder of a child.
It's disgusting. These people are heathens.

I've said this before: there is no safe birth control unless there has been a hysterectomy and castration of the pair. With the uncontrolled amount of pornography being watched in every form of media, the uncontrolled and unwanted libido of males means there is more sex activity now than there has ever been in the past. Sexual diseases are almost at epidemic level but the amount of unprotected sex thunders on. You aren't having the babies or the abortions I suppose, is it just a morbid interest?
