I think it's moving quickly... never quickly enough for some... but when you consider how slowly our government moves...it's been gaining momentum rapidly... Moreover...the public is having to think about it constantly because it's always on the ballet... and opinions are shifting in our direction according to polls... I believe that the public is where the important differences can be seen... once people realize that the world doesn't end when a gay couple gets married... they will be on board...
... I really think it's the same as the interracial marriage debate of the 50's... some people really thought it would be this horrible thing... now nobody gives a damn...as it should be...

Not only is society catching up....not only is it more acceptable......but there are more and more and more instances of bisexuality, and homosexuality happening in every community. For example, and I know this is kinda crude, but I know lots of swingers. Many of the couples have females and males that are bisexual or will at least have a bisexual experience. There are hundreds if not thousands of like minded couples and singles where I live.......I think that because of all this openness, it becomes easier for those who are homosexual or bisexual to be welcomed into a community and come out of the closet. And all this positive energy and acceptance just kinda rubs off onto the straight communities all over. It's happening where I live...I see it everyday. I know this is true. (The same can be said about white/black race relations and special needs individuals)

Society is realizing the importance of same sex marriages. The change in politics, legislation and overall perception isn't fast enough. I truly believe acceptance will come with a vicious price tag via stereotyping. We were made to think, breathe, act and interact on various levels. An individual's sexual preference SHOULD NOT determine who they are able to marry. How can a change in ruling harm hetero-marriages. Isn't that a stereotype( just like the family home with the white picket fence, a two car garage, and children running about the lush green yard? Just let people enjoy their lives.

It depends. I mean I listen to talk radio and the horrible things that come out of the mouth of these right wing dude, like Sean Hannity or Bill Whatshisface, and get broadcast to the sheeples makes me think no. Then suddenly someone stands up to these guys and makes them look like an idiot, and then I think yes.
I think people are calming down about it and coming to the realization that the old time rules are discriminatory, while the remaining detractors although vocal are dwindling. How rapidly I think is yet to be seen.

I don't believe that this realization is moving very rapidly. I think it should, but I don't think it is. The set-backs and the upholding of the same-sex marriage ban at the state level tell me the acceptance of same sex marriage is still moving very slowly. The upper level politicians who are coming out or are getting "kicked out" of the closet seem to be backing up the progress of acceptance. The right-wing moral majority seem to be closing ranks and condemning more loudly and vehemently. (perhaps a case of protesting TOO much...)

I have SOOO many people here in rural Virginia who accept me even though I am homosexual. Very few have said anything about it to me, at least to my face. But the county STILL voted 80% to amend the state constitution to ban same-sex marriages. So I am not sure whether what you say is true or not. I suspect, though, that the religious groups will continue to fight, and if people do start realizing how harmless it is, they will become MORE vocal!

I don't think it's rapid enough. So many people want to ban same-sex marriage in the U.S.. Everytime you hear of a judge allowing marriage licenses to gay couples, they quickly shut it down .They keep saying, "But it WILL hurt hetero marriage."
And when I ask, "Ok, tell me HOW?", they have no answer other than it's immoral and lessens the value of marriage.
I'm curious, why do you think society is rapid realizing how harmless it is? I hope you're right, though!

I think that people are starting to see that it doesn't effect them, so why throw a fit about how other people want to live their lives. It may also be because Bush is against it and the majority is against Bush, but hey, could just be a coincidence.
