A divorce or dissolution without a lawyer? we have been separated for 4 yrs., no kids, and no possesions to split up. I have had a hard time coming up with money to pay for it and even legal aid wanted $375. I heard there was a way you could do it yourself and only pay filing fees. does anyone know anything about this or who I could talk to to find out?

Depending upon the state in which you live, most county court houses have divorce papers apropo to that state. As well, most office supply places have divorce papers. further, you can down load divorce papers from the internet... google the sites. All you do is fill them out, and both sign. They have tons of spaces for division of property, and all you do is put the null sign there ( a zero with a slash thru it). Those papers are then submitted to the Superior court house in the county in which you live. A judge will sign and stamp them if you made no errors, and send you each copies, that will have on them the date at which you and he are each regarded as single persons. The filing fees vary. In California, LA county, it was about $15.00, but that was several years ago. There are as well on line attorneys who will do that for you... it varies from $75-$300.

hope this helps.

There may be a policy for uncontested divorce in your state. Call the marriage bureau or look them up online. You should be able to do it yourselves if you can provide documentation to support that you were not living together. Tax returns, utility bills, etc may be needed as proof that you were not living together.

Call the government office in your city or state for information. At most you'll pay filing fees and notary fees.

You can check with your county clerks office. Sometimes they have the forms there - you may just be able to pay for the filing fee. I know divorce's can be really expensive - good luck

You go to your courthouse.

By the way filing fees are around $200.

Go to your local town or city hall. The paperwork is there to fill out and file if its as you say...no kids, no property and uncontested.

You can get the papers on line for a price or you could go to the courthouse and get information.
