I have all the Harry Potter books on CD and they are read by Jim Dale. He is wonderful! The books are amazing alone, but I do enjoy hearing him do the voices and accents of the different charactors.

I don't really like books on tape, but a celebrity narrator sometimes piques my interest. I've considered buying Nabokov's Lolita read by Jeremy Irons and Patrick McGrath's Asylum read by Ian McKellan, both of which I've read as regular books. I did buy some a long time ago just because Tim Curry was the narrator, but I don't even remember what the books were!

Yup.
Some of them are pretty good like the ones read by Stanley Tucci. He's an awesome narrator.
And the Potter series read by Stephen Fry are a great listen, too.
Sometimes a famous narrator (such as the examples above) make the experience even better, but sometimes it's all for the worse.

Well I love Steve Martin and I listened to his book- shopgirl while on a road trip. I didn't love it, but when we returned and watched the movie- I decided that even though the book wasn't great, it was a alot better than the movie.

I hate when i get a book on tape and don't like the sound of the narrators voice!-- Sometimes I won't even finish it!

I have listened to many books narrated by famous people. It may have helped draw me and choose a particular book. But, overall, it did not necessarily make me like the book any better once I listened to it.

During a road trip a couple of years ago, I listened to Disclosure read by John Lithgow. I wouldn't say that I ended up liking the book any better because of Lithgow, but his reading did put a little different spin on it.

I think it depends on both the book and the narrator. If you're a big fan of both, you'll end up liking both of them better.
