I was impressed by his depth of intelligence, sense of social fairness, and his commitment to working for change in peaceful and fair ways through dialogue.

So read a number of articles about him on-line, and how he has successfully made many changes in his country since his election. Changes that were opposed by many powerful organizations outside of his country.

My question... shouldn't the US be looking for an American leader who reflects those qualities, and why can't we seem to find one?

President Morales has preserved investor's rights to recover their investment costs and a reasonable profit. Why on earth would we want for any nation to be exploited by the elite wealthy?

That's odd... to say it doesn't work, when the private companies have agreed to fair and equitable contracts, and *everyone* is making money fairly...

Ironically, the US doesn't like Morales because of his commitment to preserving the cultural status of the coca leaf which is used for cocaine production, but an incredibly significant symbol for the indigenous community.

One of the problems in America is big business and its interests have been manipulated to seem like big business is in the best interest of the US, however, you're right, we need people to be truly concerned about the citizenry.

However, we do not have the civil unrest that Bolivia did to get someone like Morales in power.

Edit: I used to live in Bolivia and there are HUGE disparities between the haves and the have-nots. That's not working for the country as it is the second poorest in the Western Hemisphere. I wish people would realise that big business sometimes does not benefit an entire society.

I think what he as done is a good compromise between companies and the working people. That, for the most part, is all that working class people in the US want. Not to live like royalty but a least comfortable with some stability at what ever job.
A government ran correctly should be able to find the balance. Our gov tips that balance way over to big business.
But in a way we have no one to blame but ourselves for electing people in gov now.

His political tendency is leaning toward socialism. Everything sounds good but in reality not everybody is pleased with him, especially rich people.

If you were a business owner or a qualified scientific who spent years studying and then you have to share your profits/salary with everybody who is poor would you feel encouraged to work hard? Don't think so.

Even distribution of goods would be ideal but the thruth is that it doesn't work. Let's ask Bolivians business owners if they are happy with Morales.

"Daily Show"
Not a valid source of news.
Socialism is not distributing "money fairly".
It is stealing from those who earn it to give to those who don't.
