You are probably thinking of Roof Hemets :

or AGV Dragon (Army)

The size of the helmet depends a lot on the brand. To save money (and end up with a less-expensive helmet), what some manufacturers will do is have a small number of "shell sizes", and then just vary the internal padding sizes to create different sizes. HJC for example has an XS, Medium, XL and XXXL shell size. Both the Small and Medium sizes have the same shell and both the L and XL are the same shell. (I might be slightly off on the details, but it's the right idea). You can try shopping around for different brands to find one that isn't as large, but I don't expect that there will be much of a noticeable difference. Try and see what it looks like when you're wearing a jacket with elbow and shoulder armor. It looks a lot less silly than it does with a T-shirt

Roof helmets - daytona or boxer are a possibility - they are in fact french. I had a Metallic Green Boxer and can tell you they are very quiet, but the odd shape of the visor limits visibility a bit and although they are supposed to have antifog coating it was never that good.
Simpson is another possibility as they make a lid that is of this shape.

KBC (US company) make the VR7 in paint schemes that are similar to fighter pilot designs however the shape of the helmet is much the same as normal. I found the KBC to be real noisy (It is a lightweight racing helmet though) and the visor was really poor quality (had a lot of distortion)

sorry make that the VR1
