I took off the air filter to get more air into the carbs, when I turned the key and tried to start it, fuel came out thruogh the air box. Lots of fuel! What would be causing this, could the slides in the cabrs be sticking?

Floats are stuck open flooding the carbs. The website below has all kinds of info and it free.

Could be a leaking intake valve.
With a leaking valve, the engine's compression would blow past the valve, through the carbs and into the air box, sucking fuel from the carbs along the way.
