has any1 got any tips on auditioning for mamma mia?

i am terrible at auditions, i graduated in musical theatre with merits (used to get main parts) and at performers college didnt get nervous at all thats cos i knew the tutors.

as soon as i walk in the room i feel like ive ruined it, apart from the fact that there are 600 other ppl, i think im useless compared 2 them.

i try to look confident but the nerves can affect your voice, and the piano guy puts me off cos i am scared about messing up the timing, as i dont know what to expect with him playing the piano. (even though i know the tune and everything)

is there anything i can do to make me stand out, to be different?

please help??? i am desperate for a break

You have to flick the switch and become someone else - the performer, not yourself. It's almost like an out of body experience. Become the other person.

First and foremost arrive early so you're not so stressed after rushing about. The other fundamental factor is your breathing. Deep breaths help control your heart beat. In through your nose and out through your mouth.

Another relaxation exercise is shaking. Sounds weird I know but take yourself off to the loo and just loosen your limbs by shaking them.

Take some water for the dry mouth that comes with nerves but only take sips or you'll get the other side effect of nerves - dozens of trips to the loo.

Have you tried meditating? Takes a bit of practise but it's great for nerves. Helps you to blank out all the other rubbish that seems to pop up in your head when you're nervous.

One last thing - if you're in to holistic alternatives try using a rose quartz crystal or an amethyst. They're particularly good for confidence and nerves and keeping a cool head. Just keep them in your pocket and touch them every so often. Try and wear bright colours too. Oranges and yellows are particularly good - they literally brighten you up.

Bear in mind most of the people in those audition rooms are going to be equally if not more nervous than you.

Most of all - SMILE whether you feel you want to or not. A big broad smile will help you feel better about yourself and be a great, warming introduction to the people you're going to impress.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

The best advice that I can give you is this. Calm down and take deep breaths. When preparing for an audition, pick a song to sing that you are fimiliar with and that you are comfortable singing in front of people. Pretend that the audience is not there, that you are in a room alone, by yourself, just singing. Follow the beat and do whatever it takes to keep you focused. Good luck with the audition!!

May I sum up? If you approach this as all acting should be approached, as another opportunity to play and have fun, for that is what acting is, playing and having fun, and then when you are called, take the stage and say outloud to everyone, I am really happy to be here. Then break into your audition and knock em dead.
Can I help you more in your career? I advise actors for nothing. read my profile and write me at my aol address

the advice i can offer is (especially if u know the piece by heart) close ur eyes and imagine the scene around u and let the music and the part consume u to where u notice nothing ecept for the fact that U r HIM. also, if u really want to make an impression, be as loud as u can. that way they will c that u r really into the part.

You're just out of your comfort zone. If you were ok performing in front of people you know, pretend you're performing to them in an audition and above all , have some faith in yourself. You know what they say, practice makes perfect.

You need to take yourself out of the "middle"...

become the part...
Say " IT'S SHOWTIME"...
And stop being you and become what it is you need to be... is a state of mind

Good Luck
