Not sure if I know what you are asking - but if you are asking if it is better to have a mother-father-children family or if it is better to be split i.e. divorce, that would depend on the situation.

Personally I think that any family environment - however you determine family - that provides a loving and safe environment where the children can learn and prosper is the idealist situation... When there is anger, hostility, resentment or repression- that is where a family unit becomes destructive and harmful to the development of the kids and the adults living in it.
