In my 20s I got pregnant twice successfully with husband #1 and had all the typical symptoms with excessive morning sickness but no cramping. Now I'm 34 with husband #2 had one miscarriage. I had no symptoms except exhaustion and cramping. The fetus stopped growing at 5-6 weeks and the body naturally exposed it at 7.5 weeks. Three months later I am pregnant again at 5 weeks and I just started cramping again last night with no other symptoms. I'm waiting for a callback from my physician but I just have that feeling I'm in for another miscarriage. What should I do, insist on progesterone treatment, or test for a certain level so they have an indicator for the next pregnancy. I do not want to wait after 4 miscarriages before they start to investigate.

Please help.

I would - I would call and ask for hcg monitoring...the progesterone will elevate your hormones which *could* prevent a miscarraige. You'll need multiple tests to check that the hormone is doubling every 24 hours. That's the key. I was on progesterone suppositories from about 2 weeks until I was 13 weeks. At that point, the placenta takes over.

Progesterone is for women who have low progesterone which causes the lining of the uterus to shed causing a miscarriage. You dont want to take progesteone unless you know yours is low, because there are some side effects and you have to take it just right or you can cause a miscarriage. You have to track ovulation, take it the day afterwards (one day too soon will mess it all up) and then keep taking it until your next period, or until 13 weeks when the placenta takes over. Have your levels checked for sure though.

The cramps could be normal pregnancy related cramps and not a miscarriage. Wait to see. If you do have a second miscarriage, that would be the point to investigate.
