Hitler served on the western front with 16th Bavarian Reserve Infantry Regiment.His baptism of fire was somewhere in Belgium when more than a half of his regiment was killed or wounded in action,while he was untouched.He gained the rank of sergeant then and served mostly in the British sector of the western front.However,he managed once to capture 11 French soldiers,armed only with a pistol!Later in the war he was slightly wounded,and during 1918. he got his iron cross for delivering an important message.He finally got gas wounds and heard of the defeat while recovering in a hospital...

Hitler served on the Western front in WW1. His regiment was the "Bayerisches Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 16" (16th Bavarian Reserve Infantry Regiment).

His final rank was "Gefreiter" or lance corporal, and he won the Iron Cross First Class as a dispatch runner.

He was gassed during the final month of hostilities and invalided away from the front.
