For teens, I would recommend the Dragonlance series by Hickman and Weiss or any book by R.A. Salvatore or Elaine Cunningham.

The original Earthsea trilogy, written in the 70s by Ursula K. Le Guin:
A Wizard of Earthsea
the Tombs of Atuan
the Farthest Shore
Mrs. LeGuin came back to these stories in the 90s, added #4 Tehanu, then some short stories, bridging various themes she had already presented, and finally, The Other Wind which came out only a couple of years ago.
the first three were meant for teens, and are a surprisingly quick read. ( I have gone back and re-read them every time a new one came out.) My kids, all teens, also enjoy her style and stories.
Some of her earlier works were standard scifi, while these fall into the fantasy category.
She's now in her 80s and still going strong. I highly recommend starting with the trilogy, if you are still a teen, and moving outwards from there.

As far as fantasy aimed at a young audience, look at The Chronicles of Prydain, by Lloyd Alexander:
The Book of Three
The Black Culdron
The Castle of Llyr
Tarn Wanderer
and
The High King
This was my first exposure to fantasy. An absolutly splendid series.

The Lord of the Rings is by far the best and the obvious choice. After that, The Hobbit.
Anything else is on a lower level, though they may be entertaining, such as Alan Dean Foster's "Spellsinger" series which I LOVED as a teen. It just can't come close to Tolkien's works.

Mercedes Lackey has a great series.
Tanya Huff is funny as hell.
my all time favorite would be L.J. Smith.
Madeleine L'Engle's books are classics, many teens have enjoyed them!
if you don't like vampires/werewolves, then i wouldn't read huff or smith.

You can't possibly be asking me to pick one! LOL
Here are the ones I would pick (without including urban fantasy):
The Prydain Chronicles by Lloyd Alexander
Hawksong by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes
