I have a really bad cold, possibly mono. Besides washing my hands or just staying away from her, is there any way I can make sure my 4 month old baby doesn't catch it? Any vitamins I can give her or something like that?

I have recently stopped nursing her, that is why I am so worried, I am hoping she got enough to build up her immune system.

If you are nursing and she gets it then it will not be a very bad cold because your antibodies will be passed through the milk before she even gets the cold so either she will skip it or it will be very mild. If you are not nursing then you are doing great by washing your hands often and keeping your distance as much as possible.

If you have mono then she would already have been exposed. Mono is transmitted long before symptoms appear. Washing your hands and using antibacterial soap can help prevent the spread of germs. Other than that I don't think there is much you can do. I'd be very cautious of giving her vitamins. Too many in her system can cause problems in the liver. Like Iron for example. Too much of it could kill an infant. So- just be careful and talk to the pediatrician before administering vitamins.

Are you nursing her? Make sure to keep nursing her as you are making immunologies that you pass on to her through your milk. I would stay away from giving her any vitamin or other supplement because she's very young, most of the products out there are meant for adults, or at least much older children.

make sure you wash your hands with warm water and soap or use an anitbacterial hand sanitizer(i.e.-Purell).

You can make a solution of 9 parts(cups)of water to 1 part(cup)of bleach. This will kill any germs on surfaces. The other choice is to use "Clorox Anywhere Hard Surface" cleaner.

as for vitamins or staying away; I would check with her pediatrician. They will have the best suggestions. Most importantly, seek medical advice for you . Everyone will benefit in the long run.

If you breastfeed she will have the antibodies for the sickness directly from you. So instead of getting what you have, she'll have a slight cold, and recover before it really effects her.

If you dont breastfeed, you're kinda screwed. Viruses have a dormant period where they are transmitted between people, that happens before you know you have it.

Dont give her vitamins unless her doctor tells you to, more children die from over dosing on vitamins than any other poison.

No, she shouldn't be on solids yet, but if you;re nursing, she's picking up your antibodies as you nurse. So as your body builds immunity to the cold, so will hers.

I haven't been able to keep my child from getting my colds thus far. But I can say she hasn't gotten them nearly as bad as I do.
