In many European countries their taxes go to excellent child care facilities. But then their taxes also go to health care.
In this country we wear it as a badge of honor that, while we need two income families, and we need health care, and we need the population to maintain growth, we ask young families to go it alone. Its a sort of screw you we're buying another Hummer for Iraq this morning mentality.
If we want middle class people to have kids that will grow up to be educated and carry on the wealth of the country, we had better do something to keep their parents in the nursery.
Right now we are seeing the lowest birth rate ever in the middle classes because childcare and heath care are so expensive. An unintended consequence, but there it is.
Like in health care, lets look at what Europe does right, and adapt it to our needs. We are talking about the heart of family values here in the real world, how our children are cared for, and how our health is paid for.
'Sensible man is correct, there are tax breaks and credits, the problem is the patchwork of availablity and the quality of care, now that even grandmas are working, the infant is often left with barely qualified caretakers, most places won't even accept young babies. Having the tax breaks removed and that money moved to community daycare with trained people and a certain educational committment is of far more value to the greater social system than what goes on now.
I also have no children in the school system and I pay taxes too, I'd like to see my taxes used effectively and practically, instead of going to corporate welfare and the welfare rolls.
But I still want our citizens to be safe and healthy.

The parents. They get tax breaks from the government to help, which is good, but the government should not have to pay for child care.

The parents of the child. I already pay taxes for schools and have no children attending them. You get paid for working and tax breaks for dependents and probably claim the childcare fees also.

The parents. Mother and father. If you are referring to the state and you have children and can't afford child care... Then you should have never had kids to begin with and should have gone to your local planned parenthood to get contraception. Better yet practice abstinence.

If day care is really necessary (like a single parent household) then the parent(s)...Do not tax me for your choice! If two people are raising their children and both choose to work and not make the sacrifices necesary to have the children at home in the earliest years then why should I who make the sacrifices also have to have my households single income taxed even more???

Parents, of course. If you can't afford 'em, don't HAVE 'em. That also applies to feeding, clothing and housing them...
