This model does not have a tuner. (My crystal ball says) If the cables are hooked up correctly, the problem probably lays with the settings on your TV. Perhaps you are receiving the output from the DVD recorder and feeding it back to the recorder to record. Try this - start recording and switch your TV to watch it the way you would if the recorder was turned off. See if it recorded something under these conditions.

If it didn't, post the model & brand of your TV and a description of what kind of connection you have to your cable service (Direct coax, coax through cable box, etc)

It sounds like your DVD recorder is not receiving television signals.

Does your recorder have a TV tuner built in, or are you depending on your TV to send it a signal to record?

Likely causes:

1. The DVD recorder is set to record from the wrong (not connected) input.

2. The wires from your TVs video out to recorders video in are not plugged into the right jacks. Most are color coded.

3. You are depending on the TV to send the recorder a signal and then turning the TV off while the recording is being made.

If this doesn't help, edit your question to include the make & model of your DVD recorder and what kind of cables you are using (composite, s-video, component?).

It sounds like you've got it set to record FROM the TV. If you have basic cable, then you must run the cable from the wall to the DVD recorder, as well as the TV. If the DVD recorder has RF out, then you can pass the cable signal to the TV. If DVD recorder only has RF in, then you need a splitter on the cable, with one output going to the TV, and the other going to the DVD recorder. The RCA cables (Red/White/Yellow) should be hooked up as follows:
DVD to TV: Line Out (Output) from DVD to Line In (Input) on TV. There is no need to use RCA cables for going in the opposite direction (TV to DVD).
