I was reading something adianne curry said on her blog about there should not be a black history month. I did not hear her say anything about any other race but black history month, so I am guessing she does not know anything about latin heritage month. I mean really black history month was created because of the lack of black history/education in public schools. Bet was created because the lack of black faces on any t.v. I understand she as well as alot of good people want there not to be any seperation, yet if we cut out black history month or latin history month that does nothing for our people. Kind of sweeps our culture under the rug. When i turn my t.v I see a more whiter less brown version of me. I don't get to turn to a channel and laugh and say 'hey that's my family.' that's why my culture enjoys shows like George Lopez provided. Or even BET provides because we don't see our culture nor our faces that relate to us, we have to relate to white culture but i'm not white.

I agree with you. As soon as black American's contributions to history have been fully incorporated into text books, and into our national awareness there may no longer be a need for a Black History Month. That time has not yet come and the need still exists.

Carter G Woodson is the father of the Black History movement

nobody but us really cares about it but every other group of people study their history and no one will ever take away my right to study and celebrate mine

i agree with you that throughout my school age, undergraduate and post graduate work I had to deal with Eurocentric education.

i don't mind because i was taught (correctly) that an educated person knows about everything and everyone

and this is why it bothers me that people are so dismissive of our history - i had to learn everyone else's and education is about learning everything, not limiting yourself

but the sentiment is there and people resent having to learn anything about us

another beef i have is how poorly it is handled by the media and mainstream education

it is only centered on biography and really doesn't get to the why of things that happened

and those media things only are like defensive tools to say, like children do, look here is a reason why you should "let" us have a Black History month

In a perfect world all of America's complete history would be told. Unfortunately, our history is incomplete. When I was a young child there were few references to Black contributions to the American experience. Until the third grade we were taught all blacks did was pick cotton and sing.

As the result of Black History Month I became aware the technological, scientific and cultural contributions of my ancestors to the American experience. This knowledge became a source of pride and inspiration in my life.

I read her blog too and her attitude was really nasty. I was with her until she said something similar to, "Yes, slavery was bad, but Blacks need to get the f!ck over it". Apparently she doesn't know Blacks where if she did she'd know that Blacks DO want to get over slavery AND racial discrimination, but certain people will not let us.

---Give us a chance to get over slavery and racial discrimination if you want us to "get over it" so bad.---

I think some people feel guilty when they learn about what happened to Black Americans. They take it personal instead of learning from these past lessons.

It also seems Adrienne forgot that it was a Black woman who made her who she is today, a model. Please, lets not give this girl any more publicity. She is very ignorant.

I don't care, but black history month isn't going away any time soon. The George Lopez Show was cancelled. And BET sucks big time. All it airs is stand up comedy & stupid rap videos.

I think there should be. What are the history months doing to hurt anybody? And Adrian is such a loser she says black history month is unfair yet she doesn't mention there is a hispanic history month, asian history month, and native american history month. She sucks.

I think all ethnicities and cultures should be celebrated and embraced. Hispanic Heritage month, Asian Heritage Month and so forth, all need to be celebrated. For all the reasons you mentioned. In the dominant white culture, you won't see many brown faces, so its up to us to make sure we celebrate who we are.

Is Adrianne Curry the washed up first ANTM. She is a vulgar, trailer park trash idiot who married a man that could be her father cause she has daddy issues, so I wouldn't take anything she says too seriously.

I think you are absolutely right. Black/Latin history month is enlightenment for us! They always want to shed light on the negative and shun the positive!
