I have a malti-poo (maltese/poodle) and i would highly reccommend them. They are a great size to have around children, she is about 15 pounds, so the baby won't hurt it. She is hypo-allergenic, doesn't shed, and is extremely smart. I would definitely recommend getting the puppy before baby so you can get it house broke, trained, etc. Mine is very gentle and great with kids, and a great lap dog. Another thing is that i would be sure to introduce any puppy you get to children so she is used to them or buy from a breeder who has children.

I'd say don't get a new dog right now...you are about to take on the biggest responsibility of your life in about two months. Trust me that puppy will get neglected. Newborns can take up a HUGE amount of time. Save all your desire to nurture for the baby.

Having a puppy is like having a baby, the dog may become jealous and cause problems. If you have to get one, it wouldn't be smart to get a small dog they are very jealous and protective. If any I would get a lab, they are the best family dogs.

Personally, I would postpone a puppy or any other pet until the baby is older. Puppies are SOOO much work, and they also wake up in the middle of the night, and make messes that need cleaned up, and you are already going to have your hands full with the baby.

Get a toy breed, they are small. But do your research, some toy breeds don't like children. We have a rat terrier, she is small, super hyper and loves kids! Puppies are hard work though, if you get one now, you might barely have enough time to get it crate trained/house broken before the baby gets here. Good Luck!

Try something like a Bichon Frise or a miniature Labrador or Labradoodle. MINIATURE only not standard cos those are too huge.
Non shedding, hypoallergenic, excellent with kids
