My lower back has been killing me!! More intense then any backache I've had during pregnancy, it feels like muscle spasms. The last time I had this much back pain is when I used to do landscaping! And I notice the baby has been really active in the last 24 hours as well. I also had so much pressure in my pelvic area it felt like I had a huge bowling ball rolling around inside me. I've only been awake for an hour now and already the backache is starting up again! Another thing is that I'm getting the odd AF type cramp. Which is weird because one of my PMS symptoms pre-pregnancy was lower back stiffness/pain accompanied by cramps. This feels just like I'm about to have a heavy duty period! But I have not lost my mucus plug (although I have dropped quite a bit in the last two days). and I don't have any real contractions, just braxton hicks frequently. I have an OB appointment tommorow morning and I will ask the doctor to check and see if I'm dilating (unless of course any of these symptoms gets worse or my water breaks or something). What do you think? Could this be labor starting?

call the doc... he/she will probably want you to come in right away... just to check....

could be the start of labor, could be that you are already IN labor now... many are in labor w/out being in the true active part for hours (up to a day or so) before the really active stuff starts.

AF type cramps are contractions, many women can have these for a while before baby comes... I wouldn't think you're about to give birth in the next hour... but... call the doc, or go to the hospital :) good luck

You didn't say how many weeks you are. You could be contracting or your baby could be on a nerve. Good job you are going to the doctors tomorrow.
Don't worry you will soon know if its real labour or not. It's like bad constipation and period pains rolled into one, accompanied by backache.
The good news is, it's only a few hours of that sort of pain. The latter pains become more intense but don't usually last too long. Soon you will be holding your little bundle of joy. My third one kicked inside until the last push.
If the baby is your first which I presume it is. They don't arrive in five minutes. Usually it takes a few hours. If your waters break tell someone. You should have plenty of time to alert the hospital.
Good luck and let us all know how it all went.

Could be. I started having contractions the day before I had my baby. I didn't really feel that much activity from her though. I started loosing my mucus plug prbly about a week before I actually had her. All my contractions did start in my lower back and it hurt soooo bad! I took 2 baths the morning I had her trying to ease it a little bit but nothing seemed to help. I went to the Dr. for a scheduled check up that am and I was dialted 3-4 cm and I was right on time as far as my contractions so they admited me. It sounds to me if the back pain gets so intense you can't stand it you should go ahead and go in so they can check you.

I lost my plug 2 weeks before going into labor. But since you are dilated to 2 you could be closer than I was. Whatever you do, don't use castor oil. This can cause your baby to poop and could cause serious problems if ingested. My suggestions are, walking, cleaning, like on your hands and knees scrubbing the floor, and more sex I guess. You could also try nipple stimulation. You have to do it for a long time for it to really work though. If you have a breast pump you might use it. however if you get anything significant pumped out save it in the freezer for baby. Just try not to use up all your energy trying to bring labor and then end up too exhausted to do the real work. Another thought, would your doctor be willing to induce you given the circumstances?

yeah, you're in the beginning part of labor. You most likely have some back labor going on. The pressure and feeling like you're period is starting is also a common sign of early labor. The period like cramps are the feeling of your cervix thinning and opening and changing.

It can go on for a week or better, or you could fly into labor in a couple minutes. So long as you're full term you're fine. If you want to encourage it take long walks and do cat-backs and sit on an exercise ball.

Have fun baby! This is the best part, you get to hork that kid out of you and finally see him or her! Its the best! Stay home as long as you can, thats the best advice i can give you. I went in as soon as my water broke, but i labored 43 1/2 hours, i wanted to stay home but no one would let me.

lol.

Trust me, you will know when your labor starts...
Sounds like your baby has dropped in preparation for labor.
Real labor make Braxton Hicks seem like a walk in the park.

This defiantly could be. I had horrible back pain (I was induced so I cant really compare cause I defiantly WAS in labor.) If your concerned at all call your OB and ask them. Good luck and hope your labor goes well!
