Naturally, contemplating the death of a person close to you is going to depress and upset you. I think what you need to do, is distract yourself from having these thoughts. If you are laying in bed awake at night thinking, why not simply get up and do something else for a little while, until you feel more sleepy? You could read a book, go online, watch TV, maybe call up a friend (if it's not too late), etc etc etc. Get up and do something, rather than lay there with these thoughts haunting you.
Another thing you might try, is exercising during the day. This way, when it's bedtime, you'll be more tired and hopefully, will fall asleep more quickly, leaving less time for laying awake, thinking negative thoughts.
Do you have someone you trust you might talk to about your fear of this other person dying? They might be able to say something to you which would make you feel better and less worried about it.
I really hope this helps you.

Death is the a personal highlight of being here now, only we get taught to be afraid of it, then people we know die and we get all upset...it's all crazy. One's own death will be wonderful, the best thing that ever happened whilst alive[sic], and the death of someone else, to be sad is self pity, incompleteness. Would you be worried to win the lottery jackpot?

I call that a negative thought loop. I think your mind forms these ruts in the road, and when you relax you fall into these ruts and they are endless thought loops of gloom and doom.
I always wonder why we don't fall into positive thought loops and replay all our greatest moments or think about how everything could go right, all the people who think highly of us.
I don't have a great solution other than don't allow your mind to indulge these thoughts and make the ruts even deeper. When you notice your mind going into this mode you have to take control and just not allow it. Gently push it away and maybe listen to music or force yourself to replay a happy memory. The thought loop will keep coming back, but you agian push it away and replace it until it stays gone.

Find someone safe to talk to honestly. If you are becoming sick from the lack of sleep, talk to your doctor. Everyone has times when they are upset. The difference is how you deal with those times.

eventually, i think u think too much... when it is come, you cant run away. so why dont think just relax and be ready. think and worried are not gonna make the things change anyways. if its some thing u cant stop, then stop it! but if its some thing that's unpreidictable, just let it happen, because u noe there's nth u can do....

maybe you need to talk to your friends and family to make sure they are alright and let them know how you feel. knowing that they are ok might help you sleep better. if this don't help tell a doctor how you feel he might be able to help.
good luck on feeling better and hope this helps you.

death is not a bad thing............. we are spirit beings and we are just having a physical human experience ...... and its not the most pleasant experience to have ..... and when its over ...... its a relief.......... not something to worry about.... maybe you don't like the alone feeling of when they are gone.......?
