as a Pirates fan, I hope he can do what he did for Cleveland here in Pittsburgh. The Pirates have some pieces in place (Gorzelanny, Snell, Maholm if he can stop having one bad inning a game, Sanchez, Bay and LaRoche) so it's not like he is starting totally from scratch.

I was impressed with the choice as well as their choice for President, Frank Coonelly.

Finally the Pirates are going with a "baseball man" rather than a businessman! If anyone knows players in the minors, prospects in college and high school it is Neal Huntington. He has learned from one of the best GMs in the game and now that the Bucs have two intelligent guys at the top of their front office, maybe they can start acquiring the talent needed for them to compete on a yearly basis. Go Bucs!

I think he is a great choice, he is not a retread like many were expecting. He has been in the Indians organization for ten years and is very good and the scouting end. It remains to be seen how he handles the entire responsiblity of the GM job because he has never done it. I like going with a young energetic guy and I hope it will work out great for the Pirates. My only other concern would be that he was demoted in Cleveland and relegated to only working on scouting the past two years, that makes me wonder why the Indians would have done that. All together though a lot better than what Houston did!

I am an Indians fan, and I think Neal Huntington is the perfect choice for the Pirates. NH came over from the Indians organization and developed professionally under our GM Mark Shapiro.

There are a lot of similarities between the two organizations: both with long histories, beautiful ballparks, working class steel towns, tight budgets, and passionate fans who will come out in droves only when the team is good but still love it when it stinks.

The Indians, Twins, and A's have set the bar for these types of organizations. NH is a great choice. Mark Shapiro loves the guy. I hope the Pirates organization is on its way back - a good Pirates team is good for baseball, in my opinion.

Neal Huntington is a young guy at only 37 years old and was an assistant GM with the Indians. His long suit is scouting players and many that know him say he is very intelligent. It would be very difficult to say how he will do as a GM since there is really nothing to look back on that has any significance. For the sake of the Pirates fans I hope he turns out to be a good one, they are due to catch a break.
