We're going to be doing this thing where he puts 1000 Ml Water in a cake pan thing and 50 Ml oil in it as well, and we have to remove as much of the oil as we can.

How should I go about doing this?

extract it with hexane (or toluene, or cyclohexane...) 200ml for 3 times.
Then evaporate the hexane and you get back the oil.

Otherwise distill away all the water, and you get back the (supposedly high boiling) oil
