What is Barry Bonds guilty of, there is speculation he cheated but after 5+ years of trying to bring him down, he has not missed any games due to suspension. Jealousy rears its ugly head because the media has a vendetta against him. This is embarrassing, what are we, European soccer fans.

I have serious mixed emotions about this...on one end, the Hall of Fame is a sacred place full of so many memories and records. On the other hand, this seems like a publicity stunt for Ecko and it's really tarnishing what the Hall stands for. Not one other piece of memorabilia in the hall is branded or modified in any way. I can understand why the Hall wants this ball as it is the record breaking HR ball, but they should have this ball with no modifications in any way whatsoever, but I would have no problem with the Hall mounting a sign next to the ball explaining the events and controversy around it, as this controversy and steroids issue is and forever will be a big part of baseballs history now.

2 baby! Edit: just wanted to add why I chose this. I did not choose 1 because I think Barry Bonds took steroids, and I do not think he deserves to be a Hall of Famer, even though he definetely will be. I didn't choose 3 becuase, whether I like it or not, this is a part of baseball history, and probably should be preserved. I chose 2 because it still preserves that ball, and at the same time acknowledges Bonds took steroids, plus I think an asterisk on the ball would be funny, lol.

I dont like Bonds as a person and the steroid thing doesnt help, but he is a good baseball player. I think Mark ecko shouldnt do anything with the ball until he is guilty of using steroids, and your head and shoe size usally doesnt grow in your 30's. just throwing that out there
But I like the idea of the Asterisk.

Perosnally i think its a great thing, The ball deserves to be in the hall since it is a great record. As for the Bonds issue, the * doesnt bother me at all. As a professional player im willing to bet my life that he knew what he was taking. Also since when is not knowing something make you innocent.
So tainted or not, the ball deserves to go to the hall, the * just unlines how absurd the steroid issue is handled by baseball.

I'm all for it. But the guy is just trying to get some publicity for himself, so it's a bit self-serving if you ask me. However, I will always believe the record is tainted because, in addition to the obvious signs, Bonds himself admitted using the Cream and the Clear in documented grand jury testimony! People seem to forget that point.

That's great. That's how it should be recorded.
Add-on: You're all morons. No one will forget that he hit 73 home runs no matter what you do. The guy, along with Sosa and McGwire are juiced up cheaters. The best way to acknowledge their accomplishment is with an asterisk. That's all they are, tarnished accomplishments. You either note them in the Hall with suspicion, or you you don't let them in period. And yes I will place that wager.

I hate the asterisk. Let people decide in their own minds how to remember the ball and the player. But, the people have spoken. Democracy in action. Even if it was voting fraud, it's the American way. Just ask George W. Bush.

I would put an appropriately sized, color-matched asterisk next to Selig's signature, and add a footnote close below:
* Did nothing to prevent this.

I don't think it was his right to do this from a moral standpoint, but his legal right since he owned the ball. But it wasn't his place to take it upon himself to punish Bonds. He's not God and Bonds wasn't found guilty. The ball can always be painted though.
