Yes, I think it was very unwise of the media to publish the picture.
Firstly, as you rightly say, because it could panic an abductor (if it is indeed abduction) into doing something rash, or it could drive them into deeper cover, making them more cautious and all the more difficult to find.
Secondly, the papers went public without checking the facts, and now we find it was actually a little local Moroccan girl after all.
Lots of excitement, lots of speculation, lots of dashed hopes, and not one millimetre nearer the truth.

I find it very strange that the photo has been released to the press. Although it has been pointed out to me that it was taken in a very remote area without access to newspapers or the internet, it is still possible that, if it is her, the people holding her could be alerted and act accordingly - whatever that would entail.

Apparenly this photo was taken in August. A bit late now to be giving photo's to the police, although better late than never.
Showing the world the photo was a bit stupid, if this IS Madeleine, the kidnappers are now fully aware of the photo. This could put her in danger.
Journalists should think before covering certain parts of news...because of them (if it is Madeleine), it will be even harderto locate her now.

They wouldn't release that photo unless they had some conclusive evidence one way or the other for that express purpose. They would not want the people to bolt. It means they are either close to finding the little girl or it is a red herring. They always withhold information and check it out before releasing it.

Yes folks- let's put this one to bed.
It is a sad story but best left now to the police.............there are awful things happening every day in this world which are receiving far less attention [if any!] and it is time for the rest of the world to give others a forum.
If they did do it then they have to live with it...............If they did not then let us wish them the very best of luck in finding the little one alive and well.

It's unfortunate for the family, but this case is so very important right now and I'll tell you why:
There are lots of child kidnapping, child pornography, human trafficking, white sex slave rings in the world and every time there is an investigation, it always leads back to very powerful institutions like the Vatican, the UN, Halliburton, Dynorp, the CIA and CPS.
This may not have happened to this poor girl but we need to start talking and asking our officials about it. It's time to get involved.

sparklyarhse,
The woman who took that picture contacted the police first who in turn contacted the Interpol. This photo is now in the public domain for police reasons we don’t just yet know. This picture was not leaked to the media haphazardly. You and I can speculate why, but that is about it …speculate!

Very good question!
Surely there is a reason for it being shown worldwide?
Dunno though!
Apparently Moroccan police are in the area just now searching!

The sizing is wrong, those of you with four year old children will know that a child of that age has longer legs and would have to sit higher if they were tucked underneath .Also only that face is looking at passing cars I sadly suspect the picture is super imposed

They really should of kept it out of the papers, but to be really truth full what parent in their right mind would leave their children, and go out, and I still dont understand how someone would just take one child and leave the others, it does not make sense to me, children are your life, for godsake they should have a bit more common senes and stayed with their kids, why has their not been anyone from the childrens service had words with thees parents anyone else and you would be in front of a judge accused of neglect, I'm sorry but it just makes me so angry, i have kids and i would never dream of leaving mine just to pop out for a night, I hope it is her but they need to sort their lives out.
