I just bought $3000 dollars worth today. and I just felt so uneasy about it. I mean you are giving "real money" for these funny money checks and it just makes me feel nervous for some reason.

Not a problem! Once in Thailand they robbed me of $3,300 on a bus, only $1000 was in American Express and that got refunded the same day with police report.
Some Asian countries give a better exchange rate in TC than on cash.

The ONLY problem I have EVER HAD with Traveler's Cheques is with an American bank on the East coast that didn't want to cash a few because the checks were from an American bank... go figure.!

I don't carry Traveler's Cheques any longer... I just carry my credit cards.. it's more convenient and I can still get cash if I need it.

If you are going to the US, my experience has been that you can use them as if they where notes in most places, although you need to have your passport with you. I have also had experience losing travellers cheques and replacements were available for me the next day. Make sure you keep the cheques and the receipt separate, maybe even photocopy the receipt. Also, make sure you know what the procedure is if your cheques are lost or stolen.

Mmmm....Travellers Cheques are a bit outdated now, but theres no real problem! You can either exchange them for cash, or some shops will just accept them as a cheque. Also, as long as you make a note of their sereal numbers, you should be covered if you lose them! Just have a good trip, and don't worry about them!!

The only trouble I have had is finding places that will cash them. Not enough places will accept them.
Everyone charges to cash them.
My experience is that cash is best, with a cash card or credit card you can access cash in the local currency from pretty much anywhere.
Travelers checks are yesterdays solution.
