The Little Mermaid is coming to Broadway November 3, but it doesn't open til December 6. I don't get this. Will the Broadway cast that includes Sierra Boggess, Tituss Burgess, Norm Lewis, Eric Palmer and Sherie Rene Scott start on November 3, or do we have to wait? Am I just having a blonde moment?! Someone help!

When a show goes up on Broadway (or most professional venues), they start out with what they call Previews. A preview is the final show, but changes can still be made. There is a paying audience (though tickets tend to be a little less expensive) and the cast should still be the same. Previews are there, basically, to work the kinks out before the press gets to see the show.

Wait for the official opening, prevues are dress rehearsals with an audience for the producer to try to make back some of his investment. I never could figue why professional didn't know there show was ready to open, when we amateur do it all the time by opening. I saw a couple of previews on Broadway and they were no where near the quality of a show that had been running a little while. Besides by waiting you will have the critic's opinion of the show.
