Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque were the co-founders of Cubism. They were in Paris when this happened. Picasso is from Spain and Braque is from France. Paul Cezanne's Post-Impressionist style inspired Cubism. I have a degree in Art, and I studied Art history in college and on my own. I bought my first Art History book at age 15, so I could answer this question then.

Cubism was begun by Pablo Picasso (Spanish, 1882-1973) and Georges Braque (French, 1882-1963) in 1907. They were greatly inspired by African sculpture, by painters Paul Cézanne (French, 1839-1906) and Georges Seurat (French, 1859-1891), and by the Fauves.
