Is it the fact that you are engaged in an act that could produce a baby that combines the genes of both of you

or...

is it the sheer union of the bodies

or...

is it the exchange of fluids

or is it something else?

(I'm not asking how to make sex more romantic or have romantic sex, I'm asking why sex is considered to be a romantic act already)

The intimacy of it.

I think that sex can be romantic when there is intimacy involved...when that happens people refer to it as making love. 2 bodies coming together to share a moment and "become one" with each other...sharing something that at that exact moment is only between them. When talking about sex in current terms it may not be romantic because the lack of intimacy....just 2 bodies that are exchanging fluids.

Sex is the closest that 2 separate individuals will ever physically be almost 1 body. The genitals becomes a connector of the physical attributes of both people. Love, however, is that same closeness but on a mental level. If you can achieve both at the same time...it can be powerful and very awe inspiring.

Sex is a romantic act when there is love in it this includes the union of the bodies and the willingness to give as much pleasure as you receive to your patner

It's the fact that the 2 people involved are ( supposed to be ) lovers.

IMO, sex is a joke. There's nothing funnier than the faces you humans make mid-coitus.

it is probably a combination of all three, but in my humble opinion it would be the intimacy of the union of the bodies.

good luck.
