If there is a popular belief out there that most everyone subscribes to, but for some reason the gut feeling inside of you says what the popular belief is not the total truth; how do you find out about the truth and more yet, how do you make people look at your side of the story? At least have them listen to you as a college student?
Scientists go thru this all the time unfortunately, they have the data and the facts but no one pays any attention to it. Look at Al Gore theory about Global Warming, scientists knew it for years but no one was interested and all of a sudden Al Gore comes in and everyone is listening.

Probably because science has been wrong plenty of times. Science is not infallible, nor is it consistent. Every time they find a new fossil - our history changes. Look at the changes in our understanding since the uncovering of DNA. Every time scientists come out with a new explanation or discovery, the new explanation or discovery is circumvented by yet the next new explanation or discovery. Science itself has created some of the world's most damaging elements -like the atom bomb, DDT, and most (if not all) of the exact elements (pollution) destroying our planet - that Al Gore has brought to the attention of the mainstream - thank gawd because the scientists sure weren't doing it.

Yup 2zy is right, you may have the gift of insight (go and be sure to produce the facts) but insightfuls don't usually come with the gift of gab.
Find a good speaker. And get them to understand it fully. Your writing skills will need to be poishied this will help you learn how to speak about what you are talking about.

I like 'to busy's' answer. The book "The Tipping Point" went into that and perhaps provides a base for the research into finding the right people. Basically it says that some are good at getting ideas, others at selling them and others at the final stage of spreading them. I didn't look much further because that's a lot of work, but I've been working at it in the back of my mind. I think it would be nice if thinking people linked, shared ideas and networked, each empowering the other. I don't know, but I suspect we are all about nearly the same type of things. Besides, not making connections is because life is absolutes and paradoxes. Things don't appear to relate at first blush, but everything relates somehow, except people. They can't relate to other ideas and therefore other people either. We're all in our box, but all the boxes and ideas relate, My theory of relativity. lol Just as a poor example. Life is like surfing, the object isn't to get to the beach, it's the ride. What I try to do is look at the opposite of my cherished beliefs to get the 3D effect that having two eyes, two hands and two hemisperes of the brain, gives us. That leads to a third conclusion better than the two previous ones. See, you've inspired me to be able to get it out some.
Therefore, I think the better solution people people use is to go where people are and help them see along the direction they're going so they can see the end and be done with it and be open to new subjects unsolved or to for them to see better how they relate to others instead of trying to get them to relate to me. In teaching, that's to go where the student is and guide him to something like your view or one that best works for him, as the goal is to make him functional. Our goal is usually ourselves and how are they to relate to that? Teaching then is listening, not getting someone to listen, as then they would have to be where you are to get it and they aren't. An impossible situation or a very difficult one. Like the store is on the left, so you go right and around the world to get there. It works, but barely and possibly not at all. Show them how it solves their problem in a way they can see it does and they don't feel you have an ulterior motive. You have to find their problem and how they see the solution and how continuing on their direction they can find it with your information or some thing like that. It's the shortest way and sometimes proves to be easy when you thought it impossible. At least learning how, once, and remembering how you did it and you've got it and people usually say, she's got it. Or else it's impossible. lol A person can't see your idea, but could possibly relate to it somehow, if you can see theirs. I see all solutions as in the mind and us rather than someone else, especially if we haven't been able to relate. Relating starts with relating to ourselves and that fixes everything, while people try to relate outside and can't relate inside. Paradoxically, if you really learn to listen to other people, you could relate to them. You get in the other persons mind and even direct it, sort of subconsciously.
I haven't seen how anyone well known is interested in anything other than furthering the mess in the world for their benefit. That's a good start for getting into their minds, but I don't think it's worth it. I think innovation is becoming more and more a grass roots phenomena. Those who lead don't know, and those who know don't lead. Society lags behind innovations sometimes even by thousands of years, so you have a real question there. I sure would try to listen to your idea, if it's public domain. I put mine on hbar12.bravehost. com. no www. Try not to laugh or judge too quickly, I know what I'm talking about I just can't say it. lol True gut reactions and instinct seem to be always right. Intuition can be learned and practice paying attention to the and you will have many more ideas that go against popular believe and find the rest of the brain we are not using properly. That's the secret of geniuses. Look it up, it's all coming out in the wash.

You found the key yourself; you have to "be somebody". Even in the family group there are the ones who can get mom and dad to do whatever. People stay the same when they grow up (to use the term loosely). If you could get somebody who knows somebody to convince that somebody that what you have figured out would be good for their image... you'd have it!
