I have never seen a website that starts with www2. Maybe they ran out of www?

No difference at all!
"www" is a common convention, but some organizations extend this convention by using the prefixes "www2", "www3", "www4", etc., for multiple related websites.

nothing big plain and simple. www. is the most traveled way to a site and it might take an extra mila sec longer. www2. is a less traveled route and might be half a sec quicker so you do what you like

www2 denotes a sub-server connected to the main server. When you type www, the DNS servers find what you want.
Clear as mud, right?
Essentially, from your perspective, it doesn't make any difference. It's web magic!

I think the ones who started in www2 is because they pay to a specific place and they give they a name. If you want to improve your web i reccommend you to visit http://www.seotopsearch.com There you will find: Search Engine Optimization (SEO): SEO Articles, search engine directory, positioning, search engines ranking
