The military junta does not give a hoot about the US, or any other kind of international pressure, or UN sanction - it matters very little to their survival and rule of the country (just like Iran). Even if China, India, Japan or Russia are 'pressured' against trade with Myanmar, the generals will not back down nor disappear into the jungles - that leaves only "hope". So, in view of the doom-&-gloom scenario, I h-o-p-e the Burmese people succeed this time around.

The UK and USA do not recognise Mayanmar as a name for Burma,

I think this is because the Generals who think they own the country forced this name on the freedom movement.

They are shockers the Generals who rule Burma, China and Russia should be condemned for supporting them

The Buddhist monks have the power to reestablish democracy. The military dicts will not chance the massacre of the Monks- all power to them. What a great pity GWBush is not a Buddhist monk for then he would have the power in install democracy in ---Pakistan? Where is a military dictatorship, that has been strongly supported throughout by the white House and the Pentagon.

I really hope that the people in Burma succeed this time, but it's looking increasingly unlikely as the military are going in with teargas and beating monks with their guns. There are already many injured and at least one dead. It's not looking good.

My thoughts are with the people of Burma.

We have to continue to pressure the Burmese and hopefully the UN meeting tonight may come up with a solution maybe China could put pressure on them but will the Burmese military junta listen?

Yes I do hope they will succeed this time around. The Burmese must do it for themselves because other powers are looking for an excuse to tap in to the natural wealth which was there for all of them upon independence

The Burmese would succeed. Its just a matter of time. But I don't know whether it'd be this time. They love Ang Suu Kyi very much that the military might threaten them with her. But of course they'd win if they continue in this Gandhiian way. And India always supports them.

Burmese must all be united and disciplined and know what they want to win in the long run. Otherwise they just have to pray that the generals will be generous with them. or wait for generals to kill each other and usurp the throne till one gets fed up and give over power to people.

it doesn't matter, its not worth fighting and dying.

I hope that this is the case...but military intervention is envitable I fear. No one from the West is going to interfer are they.

I will pray for these people who deserve justice after years of military oppression.

What baffles me if those in the military are just ordinary folk themselves how can they punish their own in such a brutal fashion as we have all born witness to in the past.
