I'm doing a contrast research project on whether or not women who are not 'healthy & normal' should have kids, from an ethical standpoint.
And am having difficulties getting information from the ethics side of things.

I do not agree nor disagree with the question, I am just asking to get your view.

Men are left out of the question because the women are going through the physical aspect of pregnancy. It takes a toll on their bodies and health.

While you only ask about women, the question could easily include men since 1/2 of the DNA comes from them. Why are they left out??

In my opinion not even the healthiest woman has a guarentee for tomorrow. Down Syndrome is different from the rest in that I believe it is a genetic abnormality...and can't that be passed down, two recessive genes and now that child has it...so the childs chances of getting it would be 50%? I might be mistaken.

As far as cancer, so long as you are through with radiation or chemo and in remission I would say why not? Sure they might get cancer again but anyone might get it. Diabetes, it is taxing on their body, but the child could quite easily have a normal life.

MS my mother, my grandmother (paternal grandmother) and my great grandmother (maternal grandmother) all had MS. And I am glad that didn't stop them from having children. The only way it has affected me is my mother is tired and forgetful. So far I am MS free, although not the easies thing to have diagnosed.

Noone has the right to tell a woman not to have a child, and woman have to think ahead to how it might affect the lives of their child, for most a loving mother is an incredible gift, for as long as it lasts!

Absolutely - it is a woman's choice to have children, and just because their life expectancy is shorter they can still be excellent parents while they are here. In truth a "healthy" woman could step off a curb and get hit by a bus the day after giving birth -- so no one is "guarenteed" that they will live to raise their children.

A dear friend of mine had Cystic Fibrosis and against the odds she was able to have a child. She is gone now, but her son lives on knowing that his mother loved him dearly and wouldn't have given up her 7 years with him for a lifetime without him.
