they are in the spirit world, they can't hurt you, just scare you. They are jealous of you that you still have a body. Put some lighting down there. Bad spirits like the shadows and darkness, so put something cheery and bright in the room, and they'll head for greener, er, darker pastures! Maybe an overstuffed floral sofa, some power puff girls pink fuzzy bean bag chairs, and a Tinkerbell lamp.
Make it to fun and too cute down there for ghosts.

Basements have always given me the willies - finished or unfinished new or old - they creep me out, but I would take an EMF reader to all electrical connections down there. A lot of times in older homes, the electrical outlets or the wiring is old or over indated with other electrical connects that it puts out high electrical charges in the air and may set off you own electrical impulses in your body - hence the earie hair standing up on the back of your neck feelings. Also, check for prodominant wet spots along the base of the walls and mold or moisture in the rafters. If it looks like that it has been there a long time I would have a professional seal it for you and treat the wood and try to dry out the area. Mold can not only be a health hazard it can be a mild halluconagen.
Hauntings and spirit "placement" do not have a "witching hour" so to speak. They come when they want to. The veils of the worlds between the living and the dead are thinner in the late evening or very early morning and more happen during full moons just because the energy is higher, but the only way you should ever worry is when they are manevolent.
Do your scientific tests first. If there are no high readings or natural mold or moisture present then I would have a sensitive person come and look the place over. If you live in North Carolina near the South Carolina border I would be glad to help you but I do not have a EMF reader I'm just a sensitive.
Good hunting and congrats on owning a part of history!

Stay out of there with a weegee board. They do work and any demons you scare up will not go into the air but into your body and soul and cause you bad luck for the longest time. You don't need it. On the other time maybe the odor down there is what is bad. That is usually caused by mold from dampness. Get hold of a waterproofer. Then put a ton of lights down there so you won't get spooked when you go down there then paint everything white for extra luck. After all that work. It should be OK.

You might want to get your foundation checked. A house that is over 100 years old probably has some structural issues that can make it sound like something is having a party down there. Even my relatively new log cabin clunks and settles and has a very distinct ghostly "voice" that I often mistake for my answering machine. I suggest you go down to the basement with a structural engineer! Of course, that wouldn't be as fun as taking the Ouija board...

No... No... No... The spirit world has no time parameters. Basements are always cooler than the up stairs. Don't play with Ouija boards. You are opening up things you don't understand and could start up something you don't want to have anything to do with.

Maybe there's a moisture situation that they may be able to odor. Try a few deodorizing spray at the wall. If the situation is going away, you can also have to investigate the groundwork. New residences can settle greater than older residences. Dogs mainly do not have a situation with critters within the condo.

a spirit cannot hurt you. please do not play with the ouja board. that invites nothing but negativity. sometimes basements can make you feel eerie because of all the electro magnetic energy, which alot comes from wires, circuit breakers, etc. if you think there are things down there then tell them to go on. tell them they are dead and to go home. tell tehm to go to god. it really does work. oh yeah, and your friend sarah doesnt know what shes talking about.

There are no bad spirits and NEVER EVER play around with a ouija board. You have an old house and it's probably just drafty. If you are worried about ghosts then just say go to God, you are dead.

Ouija Boards are illegal in many parts of the world, as they are extremely dangerous (check with any 'spiritualist Church' & they will confirm this,as will the department of mental health).people who open themselves up to 'earthbound spirits' are risking their mental health, and this is how they may become "posessed" of dead people's personalities & worse. If you feel that you have a problem, ask a spiritualist minister to advise you - they're nice people...Good Luck !
