MPD is soooo rare and hard to diagnose. Usually, MPD (multiple personality disorder) has it's roots in some kind of dramatic and heavy trauma, such as sexual or physical abuse. The mind of the victim is so fragile, yet so traumatized that it actually shuts down and creates another personality to cope with the situation... These events are usually when the personalities are 'born'. A more reasonable answer would be Bi-polar or manic mood disorder... You should definitely try to get your friend to volunteer for an evaluation somewhere, alot of state and local agencies will evaluate for free.. Hope this helps...

A person suffering from MPD (multiple personality disorder) usually has the chief complaint of missing periods of time, or "waking up" in a different location than they last remembered being. It's a fascinating disorder really, considering it's exactly like having several different people sharing one body - who could have different personalities, handwriting styles, and even genders.
Your friend, however, just sounds like a typical teenager.

multiple personality is now called dissociative disorder and it is when someone complete dissociates between personalities...they are very complicated and extremely rare...i do have a friend who is bipolar that has these same symptoms and that may be what the problem is or it could be something even more simple...only a psychologist or psychiatrist can tell you for sure and if this is affecting his life negatively you may want to suggest the trip to a professional...good luck...you must be a good friend to care so much

No he is not having Multiple Personality.
Normally persons with multiple personality won't feel that they act differently in differnt places.
Check him whether he knows that.

I agree that this is not sounding like a case of MPD. I suggest that you take a look and see how this is really affecting his life. It sounds like it could be a simple case of ADD (attention deficit disorder). People with ADD often change their minds on a whim and seem to act different around certain people. Also they don't seem to pay much attention to normal things around them because they are boring to them but things like school work could challenge them enough to stay focused long enough to get the job done. I suggest if this is casing problems in his life, you bring it up to someone who could get him help with resolving the issue, like a councilor.

It could just be his personality. It sounds like he cares what family & friends say to him so is nice when around them, but not when they are not around. It is also possible for one person to have high IQ (be good at school) and low EQ (bad with social relationships). I bet when he gets older he will be more consistent.
